Summer Boys Basketball
From Coach DJ Johnson:
I hope you are having a great day and start to your summer. My name is DJ Johnson and I have been coaching basketball at Hope for a number of years. I love the game and have been asked to coach again this year at Hope. This summer, rather than just having a week long basketball camp for boys, and potentially have some miss the camp due to a vacation, I have decided to have a skills and practice day each week through the summer. I have a few guys helping me too. The two main guys helping me include Jeff Miller, a former Hope student and HS athlete who has helped me with basketball at Hope over the years, as well as Matt Riechers, who helped the past two years at Hope and also played multiple sports and attended a Lutheran grade school in Illinois.
We have Thursday evenings from 6-7:30 pm at Hope FLC planned for basketball workouts starting this Thursday, June 9.
We plan to work on basketball skills and organize some competitions with each other, as well as just have some fun. Our approach is to work with beginners as well as those who may be more advanced and it is for 5th grade boys through 8th grade boys at Hope.
One way for us to have a better practice or workout is to know who will be attending each week. We can plan activities around the skill level and number of boys we will have. If it is possible, please send me an e-mail by Tuesday of each week letting me know if you will have your son attending.
The first week, we will need waiver forms completed;
I will have those forms there each week. Parents will need to sign for their son, so please stay long enough to do that the first time; once it has been filled out, it is good for all summer. The first night or two may be less structured than others until we see how many we get and what the skill levels are of those we have. Please let any other 5-8 Hope boy families know in case I may have overlooked their e-mail address. If you have any questions, you can e-mail me back or call my cell phone at 913-645-1670.
Looking forward to a great summer,
