Welcome to the 2024-2025 school year! I am excited to have your students in first grade this My name is Miss Hannah Christian and I am teaching first grade at Hope this year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Theme<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n Our theme for the 2023-2024 school year is \u201cEndure\u201d from Hebrews 12:1-3. \u201cTherefore, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us also lay aside every weight, and sin which clings so closely, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n About the Teacher<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n This is my second year of teaching. My favorite subjects are reading, religion, social studies, music, and art. I am from Colorado and enjoy going to the mountains and seeing God’s creation! My goal for my students is to love learning and build their independence and skills throughout the year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n What to Expect in First Grade?<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n Your students will be expected to gain more independence throughout first grade. Students are responsible for reading aloud for ten minutes each night for homework. This helps promote fluency and increase their comfort level with reading.<\/p>\n\n\n\n First grade drop off and pick up for the first week of school will be outside. I will meet your students outside and we will walk in together as a class.<\/p>\n\n\n\n This newsletter will be updated weekly with first grade schedules and announcements. You will also be able to view memory and spelling assignments on the website. Please refer to the K-3 Scoop for other announcements and information.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Week at a Glance<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n This week we will be learning first grade routines and schedules. In math we will practice adding to 6. In language we will learn words with the short “e” sound. In reading we will preview our academic vocabulary and identify alliteration. Our science lessons will be about light. In social studies we will learn about Guatemala. During religion class we will learn about our theme verse and creation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Back to School Night<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n Back to School Night for first grade is Thursday, August 22nd at 6:30 pm. We will start in the church sanctuary and then move to the first grade classroom. I will have a presentation with information and there will be an opportunity to ask questions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Snack<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n We will have afternoon snack once a day after recess. Please put the snack somewhere distinct and make sure your child knows where it is. If it is kept in the lunchbox it is best to have a designated place for the snack. That way it is not accidentally eaten during lunch.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Headphones<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n All first grade students need headphones with a cord to plug into the Chromebook. Earbuds and Bluetooth headphones are not recommended.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Bathrooms<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n First grade students use the bathroom with the lockers at the end of the hallway. We do not have a bathroom in the classroom. This helps to increase their independence and personal responsibility.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Memory and Spelling<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n I will send home a spelling list and memory verse each week in Thursday folders. We will have memory tests on Wednesdays and spelling tests on Thursdays. Your child should recite the weekly memory verse at home. Memory grade includes the verse, book, chapter number, and verse number.
