Newsletter – November 16th-26th

November 15, 2023

Welcome to the 8th Grade Homeroom newsletter!

As we head into a few days off school, I pray that your family finds time to truly give thanks for all the blessings God has given you this year. I pray for safe travels, time for rest and relaxation, and time for lots of love and laughter over our Thanksgiving break.

Our school theme is “Connected” with our verse of “I am the vine; you are the branches. Whoever abides in me and I in him, he it is that bears much fruit, for apart from me you can do nothing.“–John 15:1-5.
Chapel offerings will go to Christmas Families for 2nd quarter. Please encourage your child to bring offering each week. It is a good way for them to remember the blessings they have and to share those blessings with others. “Whoever oppresses a poor man insults his Maker, but he who is generous to the needy honors him.” Proverbs 14:31.

Friendsgiving – The 8th grade class has been invited to share in a “Friendsgiving” celebration with the students at Stony Point North Elementary School in KCK tomorrow. This is a wonderful opportunity for our Hope students to get to know the children of Stony Point that they will be Christmas shopping for in a few weeks.
Permission forms for our shopping trip and for delivering presents are in your child’s Thursday envelope. Please sign and return them by November 30th. We will need parent volunteers to drive for both trips, so please let me know if you are available to drive.

Christmas families – This will mark our 30th year of offering the love of Christ through the outpouring of food and clothing to those less fortunate during the Christmas season.   With your generosity, we have successfully given for many years to those in need.   We are asking for you to consider joining us in making it another successful season for four families that we at Hope Lutheran School have adopted during this season of Christmas.

Each week, students will be asked to bring in specific items for the families. I am challenging the 8th grade class to donate items to earn extra recess time. If we have at least 7 students bring in items on the donation day, the class will earn 5 minutes of extra recess.

We also need donations of baked goods for the sale.  Please use this link to let us know what you can donate.  Items need to be individually wrapped and clearly labeled for nut or gluten allergies. Please have donations to school by noon on December 1st.  Bake Sale Donations

Donations for Stony Point Elementary – The 7th/8th-grade students have the opportunity to provide a Christmas celebration for physically and developmentally disabled students attending Stony Point North Elementary School in KCK. Many of these students are in foster care and for many of them, these gifts will be their entire Christmas.  Money can be dropped off in the school office. We need to raise at least $1600 for the children of Stony Point. The 7th/8th graders thank you in advance for your support. The collection deadline is Tuesday, December 8th.
