Newsletter – January 18th

January 17, 2024

Welcome to the 8th Grade Homeroom newsletter!

What worries have been weighing you down already this year? Are you having a tough time figuring out how to solve a problem? There’s one person who has all the answers and wants to help – Jesus! He knows all about your troubles and worries, and he can help. All you have to do is talk to him; pray for his guidance and love. He is never too busy. He’s always ready to listen. And he loves you so much that he will take your worries upon himself. So as you head into this new year, remember, “If you are worried about it, that’s a sign you need to PRAY about it.” Philippians 4:6-7

Our school theme is “Connected” with our verse of “I am the vine; you are the branches. Whoever abides in me and I in him, he it is that bears much fruit, for apart from me you can do nothing.“–John 15:1-5.
Chapel offerings will go to Comfort Dogs Ministry for 3rd quarter. Please encourage your child to bring offering each week. It is a good way for them to remember the blessings they have and to share those blessings with others. “Whoever oppresses a poor man insults his Maker, but he who is generous to the needy honors him.” Proverbs 14:31.

Graduation Items – Please contact Mrs. Adams to let her know how you would like your child’s name to appear on his/her diploma.

Parent/Teacher Conferences are this week!  This time your child will be leading the conference by giving his/her summary of strengths and goals for this semester. Conferences will be held on Thursday, January 18 and Friday, January 19.

National Lutheran Schools Week – The last full week of January we will be celebrating National Lutheran Schools Week. Your family is invited to attend church at Hope on Sunday, January 21 to help us kick-off NLSW. The Kindergarten through 2nd grade choir will be singing during the 8:00 service; and the 3rd-8th grade choirs and A Band will be performing during the 10:30 service. 7th & 8th grade students will be asked to serve as greeters and ushers during both services. It would be wonderful to see the church filled with Hope students and their families!

Pastries & Chapel – Join your child for coffee and treats before school on Wednesday, January 24th from 8:10-8:30 in Concord Hall. Then stick around to watch the 8th grade class lead Chapel starting at 8:40 am in the sanctuary.

Family Game & Pizza Night – PTL invites you to Family Game & Pizza Night on Tuesday, January 30th from 5:30-7:00 pm in the school commons.  Pizza dinner will be $7 per person.  You bring your favorite board game to share!  There is an RSVP form in your child’s Thursday envelope that needs to be returned by January 26th.

Library Field Trip – On Wednesday, February 7, 6th-8th grades will be going to the Johnson County Library in the afternoon to do research for their Science Fair projects. The Science Fair will be on Wednesday, May 1st. More details about the project and specific deadlines will be shared with students next week.

Outdoor Recess – Per our handbook policy on page 14, on most days, students will be expected to go outside for recess. Students must have a coat to go outside to recess if the temperature is 50 degrees or below; zippered hoodies are not considered coats. Hats and gloves are also recommended.
