Newsletter – January 25th

January 24, 2024

Welcome to the 8th Grade Homeroom newsletter!

This week we have been celebrating National Lutheran Schools Week. Our theme is “Connected” with our verse of “I am the vine; you are the branches. Whoever abides in me and I in him, he it is that bears much fruit, for apart from me you can do nothing.“–John 15:1-5. We have talked about how to use the Fruits of the Spirit to stay connected to God and to each other. Ask your child which “fruit” they chose as the one they want to focus on this year.

Chapel offerings will go to Comfort Dogs Ministry for 3rd quarter. Please encourage your child to bring offering each week. It is a good way for them to remember the blessings they have and to share those blessings with others. “Whoever oppresses a poor man insults his Maker, but he who is generous to the needy honors him.” Proverbs 14:31.

Graduation Items – Please contact Mrs. Adams to let her know how you would like your child’s name to appear on his/her diploma.

Basketball Recognition Change – The 8th grade Recognition for Basketball players has been moved to this Saturday, January 27th. The girls will be honored before their game at 11:00 am; and the boys will be honored before their game at 1:00 pm.

Family Game Night – PTL invites you to Family Game Night on Tuesday, January 30th from 5:30-7:00 pm in the school commons.  You bring your favorite board game to share!

Library Field Trip – On Wednesday, February 7th, 6th-8th grades will be going to the Johnson County Library in the afternoon to do research for their Science Fair projects. The Science Fair will be on Wednesday, May 1st. More details about the project and specific deadlines will be shared with students throughout the semester.

Library Cards – If your child has a Johnson County Library Card, please make sure it is up to date so he/she can use it on our field trip. If your child does not have a card, please consider getting them a card before we go. It is free, even if you don’t live in Johnson County, and you can sign up using this web link: https://ecard.jocolibrary.org/

Basketball & Cheer PicturesThursday, February 8th after school. Bring your uniform. Photo order forms will be sent home in your child’s Thursday envelope.

Spring Play – Mrs. McIntosh will be our drama coach for our 7th/8th grade Spring Play. Auditions will be held on Monday, February 12th at 3:45 pm – 4:30 pm.  Rehearsals will be on Wednesdays from 5-6:30 pm and Thursdays from 6- 7:30 pm. The spring play is called The Pony Expresso. The spring play will be performed on April 18-19. If you have any questions, please email Mrs. Mcintosh at mcintosh@hopelutheran.org.

Ash Wednesday Chapel – As part of this service on Wednesday, February 14th, the children may participate in the imposition of ashes.  If you do not want your child to participate, please let his/her teacher know.  The children do not have to participate if they do not wish to.  If you have any questions, please get in touch with the school office. Chapel service will be held in the sanctuary. Parents are welcome to attend.

Open House Nights – Do you know someone who is looking for a Christian education for their children? Invite them to attend one of our Open Houses. They can meet the teachers and find out more about what Hope has to offer. The open houses will run from 6:00-8:00 pm each night.
Open House dates: Thursday, January 25th; Wednesday, February 7th; Tuesday, February 13th

Outdoor Recess – Per our handbook policy on page 14, on most days, students will be expected to go outside for recess. Students must have a coat to go outside to recess if the temperature is 50 degrees or below; zippered hoodies are not considered coats. Hats and gloves are also recommended.
