Newsletter – February 1st

January 31, 2024

In class lately, we have been talking about the future. What schools they will be attending next year; what kind of experiences they want to have in Washington, DC; plans they have for the summer, or getting their driving permits, or even as far as the type of person they hope to marry. Some of the class is excited and ready to go, but some of them are nervous and reluctant to change. I’ve been trying to remind them that they don’t need to stress about the future. God already has it planned out. He knows exactly what needs to be done to keep them (and you) following the life He’s created for them. What we have to do is pray that He will show us His plan and keep us strong to follow it. “God knows what’s best for you. Trust the plan.” Jeremiah 29:11

Chapel offerings will go to Comfort Dogs Ministry for 3rd quarter. Please encourage your child to bring offering each week. It is a good way for them to remember the blessings they have and to share those blessings with others. “Whoever oppresses a poor man insults his Maker, but he who is generous to the needy honors him.” Proverbs 14:31.

This week we are celebrating our 100th day of school! On Friday, the whole school will participate in 100 exercises to get us ready for the day. I may have a fun surprise planned for the 8th graders as well…

Friendship Grams – Student Council will be selling Friendship grams before school on February 5-9.  The cost is $1.00 each.

Valentine’s Day – Just a reminder that 8th grade does not have a Valentine’s Day party. I will bring in a small treat for the class that day. We also ask that students don’t bring valentine cards to hand out, but encourage students to purchase Friendship Grams instead.

Library Field Trip – On Wednesday, February 7th, 6th-8th grades will be going to the Johnson County Library in the afternoon to do research for their Science Fair projects. The Science Fair will be on Wednesday, May 1st. More details about the project and specific deadlines will be shared with students throughout the semester.

Library Cards – If your child has a Johnson County Library Card, please make sure it is up to date so he/she can use it on our field trip. If your child does not have a card, please consider getting them a card before we go. It is free, even if you don’t live in Johnson County, and you can sign up using this web link: https://ecard.jocolibrary.org/

Basketball & Cheer PicturesThursday, February 8th after school. Bring your uniform. Photo order forms were sent home in your child’s Thursday envelope.

Spring Play – Mrs. McIntosh will be our drama coach for our 7th/8th grade Spring Play. Auditions will be held on Monday, February 12th at 3:45 pm – 4:30 pm.  Rehearsals will be on Wednesdays from 5-6:30 pm and Thursdays from 6- 7:30 pm. The spring play is called The Pony Expresso. The spring play will be performed on April 18-19. If you have any questions, please email Mrs. Mcintosh at mcintosh@hopelutheran.org.

Ash Wednesday Chapel – As part of this service on Wednesday, February 14th, the children may participate in the imposition of ashes.  If you do not want your child to participate, please let his/her teacher know.  The children do not have to participate if they do not wish to.  If you have any questions, please get in touch with the school office. Chapel service will be held in the sanctuary. Parents are welcome to attend.

Open House Nights – Do you know someone who is looking for a Christian education for their children? Invite them to attend one of our Open Houses. They can meet the teachers and find out more about what Hope has to offer. The open houses will run from 6:00-8:00 pm each night.
