Newsletter – March 21st

March 20, 2024

“All glory, laud, and honor to You, Redeemer, King,
To whom the lips of children made sweet hosannas ring.
You are the King of Israel and David’s royal Son,
Now in the Lord’s name coming, Our King and Blessed One.”

Chapel offerings for 4th quarter will go to the Guatemala Mission Trip. Please encourage your child to bring offering each week. It is a good way for them to remember the blessings they have and to share those blessings with others. “Whoever oppresses a poor man insults his Maker, but he who is generous to the needy honors him.” Proverbs 14:31.

3rd Quarter Grade Cards – Grade Cards are going home today in the Thursday envelopes.  Please keep the grade card, but sign and return the white envelope to school.  Do not seal the envelope, please.

Tri-Fold BoardsStudents need to purchase their Science Fair tri-fold boards from the office.  Boards are $6 each and come in colors: red, blue, yellow, and green.  Colors are available on a first come, first served basis.  Boards must be purchased by April 7th.

Science Fair Boards – Mrs. Cook, a 7th grade parent, has volunteered to help the students use Canva to create their boards for the Science Fair.  She will be coming to class to work with students who are interested in using this process.  She is also volunteering to help students print their Canva design at the Olathe, Indian Creek Library on Thursday, April 25th.  A letter with details about this opportunity is in your child’s Thursday envelope.  If you would like your child to work with Mrs. Cook, please sign and return that letter by April 15th.

Culver’s Night – Join us on Monday, March 25th from 11:00 am-9:00 pm at the Culver’s Lenexa location. A portion of the sales for the night will be donated to the school.

Non-Uniform Day – On Thursday, March 28th, students may bring $2 to wear non-uniform clothes to school. They may also bring $1 to wear a hat. Students not participating need to wear normal uniform clothes.

Read-a-thon – Hope is getting ready to kick-off our Read-a-thon fundraiser!  Read-a-thon makes it easy, fun, and rewarding to practice reading at home and at school.  Friends and family support your child’s reading efforts by making a donation to their personal Read-a-thon page.  Next week you will receive instructions on how to create your child’s account, how to share it with friends and family, and how to log reading minutes online.  This fundraising event will be used to raise money for new computers and chromebooks for our students and staff. Our class is raising $2200 to purchase a new laptop for Mrs. Burgoon, one of our preschool teachers.
Track our class’s progress using this link: Mrs. Eckhoff’s Class Page

Olympic Day – Lutheran High School will be hosting their annual Olympic Day on Thursday, April 25th. A hamburger lunch is available to participants for $3.00 and must be ordered before we go. A permission form is in your child’s Thursday envelope and needs to be returned by March 28th.  If you are available to drive for Olympic Day, please make sure to let me know before March 28th.

Washington DC Trip – We will have a parent meeting about the Washington DC Trip on Monday, April 29th at 5:30 pm in the Science Room. Please add this date to your calendars as we will share information about trip expectations, transportation, itinerary, and “housekeeping” items. We have paperwork that needs to be completed at this meeting, so please plan to attend.

Outdoor Recess – Per our handbook policy on page 14, on most days, students will be expected to go outside for recess. Students must have a coat to go outside to recess if the temperature is 50 degrees or below; zippered hoodies are not considered coats. Hats and gloves are also recommended.
