Newsletter – August 17th

August 11, 2023

Welcome to the 8th Grade Homeroom newsletter! I hope your child had an exciting first day.

Mrs. Eckhoff’s Biography:
This is my 4th year teaching at Hope Lutheran, and my 3rd year as the 8th Grade Homeroom teacher. I will be teaching 7th/8th Language Arts and Literature, US History, Geography, electives, and Band. I have been married to my husband, Eric, for 24 years, and we have 3 children – Ella, Allison, and Walt – a dog and 2 guinea pigs. Some of my favorite things are traveling, scrapbooking, watching movies, and music. I am also a huge trivia and history buff, so I love learning new things. I attend Ascension Lutheran Church (on the Missouri side) where I am a lector (read Bible verses), play in the handbell choir, perform special trumpet music, and lead adult Bible studies. I am so happy that God has led me to Hope Lutheran so I can continue to share the love of Jesus with my students and families.

Our school theme is “Connected” with our verse of “I am the vine; you are the branches. Whoever abides in me and I in him, he it is that bears much fruit, for apart from me you can do nothing.“–John 15:1-5.
Chapel offerings will go to Lead a Child for 1st quarter.

Thursday envelopes will go home the first day. Please review and sign any papers in the envelope, sign the envelope, and return it to school on Friday.

Your child will be bringing home the Middle School Policy Guide in their Thursday envelope. Please read through it and sign and return the back page by Tuesday. Students will bring home the Chromebook Use and Policy Guide on Friday. Please read through it and sign and return the page on Monday. Students will not be allowed to bring Chromebooks home until the Policy Guide form has been returned.

Back to School Night for the Middle School is Tuesday, August 22 at 6:30 pm. All 7th-8th parents will meet together in the Sanctuary for an informational slide show about all classes.

Hope’s 5/6 Volleyball Tournament will be on Saturday, August 26. It is a fundraiser for the Washington, DC trip, and we will need lots of student and parent help that day. Watch for the sign-up information to be sent out soon.

Hope Lutheran School is turning 40 years old this year! Come join us for our Anniversary Bash on Saturday, September 9. The school choirs and the Advanced Band will perform. Watch for more information to be sent home in Thursday envelopes.

Our first field trip is coming soon. The 7th and 8th graders will be going to Garnett, KS to tour an Ethanol plant and the Anderson County Historical Museum and Harrison House on September 19. We have received a grant to pay for a bus, but we are still finalizing details. A permission form for this trip will be sent home next week.
