Welcome to the 8th Grade Homeroom newsletter!
In each newsletter this year, I am going to ask you to pray a specific prayer for your child. Our class prays everyday for others, including you parents, so I would like to invite you to pray for specific parts of your child’s school year.
The prayer for this week is: Ask God to help them put their trust in Him.
Our children are bombarded with information everyday. It can be difficult to determine what to believe or what is best for them. Thankfully, God is in control of everything, and our children need to know that He will always guide them. The path may not be clear or make sense to us, but God’s plan is perfect. He will never leave us. “When I am afraid, I put my trust in you.” Psalm 56:3.
Our school theme is “Connected” with our verse of “I am the vine; you are the branches. Whoever abides in me and I in him, he it is that bears much fruit, for apart from me you can do nothing.“–John 15:1-5.
Chapel offerings will go to Lead a Child for 1st quarter. Please encourage your child to bring offering each week. It is a good way for them to remember the blessings they have and to share those blessings with others. “Whoever oppresses a poor man insults his Maker, but he who is generous to the needy honors him.” Proverbs 14:31.
Student Council – Parents are invited to come hear the campaign speeches on Thursday, September 14 at 2:45 pm in the church sanctuary. Voting will take place in the classrooms immediately following the speeches.
Fall Conferences – We will have our fall Parent Conferences on Thursday, September 21 and Friday, September 22. Parents will meet with the middle school team together in 25 minute time slots. You will receive your child’s mid-term progress report, MAP test scores, and Thursday envelope at the conference.
Our first field trip is this Tuesday. The 7th and 8th graders will be going to Garnett, KS to tour an Ethanol plant and the Anderson County Historical Museum and Harrison House. We have received a grant to pay for a bus, so we do not need parent drivers. Students need to wear regular school uniforms and bring a sack lunch and water bottle.
Pie Fundraiser – Updated order forms for the Pie Fundraiser have been sent home. Please collect payments as you take orders. Checks can be made payable to Hope Lutheran. Please have order forms and payments returned to school by Wednesday, September 21. Pies will be delivered in November. This is a fundraiser for the 8th grade Washington, DC trip.
Our second field trip will be on Tuesday, September 26 to Timber Ridge Outdoor Education. Thank you to everyone who volunteered to drive. Students need to wear their PE uniforms and bring a water bottle and disposable sack lunch.
Fentanyl Presentation – As you may have heard (or maybe not) Fentanyl is a problem in the United States, especially for our youth, but what you don’t know about this problem may surprise you. Beautiful Savior Lutheran Church (13145 S Black Bob Rd, Olathe, KS 66062) in Olathe is putting on a fentanyl awareness presentation on Sunday, October 1 at 1:30pm. This presentation is put together by Captain John Diaz with the KCK police department and Libby Davis with Keepin Clean for COOP. The presentation will go from 1:30-3:00pm and there will be separate sessions for youth (middle school and up) and parents. Any questions please reach out to Pastor Ada pastorada@bslcks.org or Jennifer Bertels jennifermbertels@gmail.com.
