Hello everyone,

I hope your holidays went well and that everyone is settling back into routine smoothly. The class has had a great few days back! We have been working hard on reviewing and practicing classroom procedures and expectations. Because we are just returning to school and re-establishing routines, we have continued with our units from last quarter and have also allowed for some additional free-play time.

Math:
We are continuing to work on position words such as above, below, next to, beside, inside, and outside. Students are showing a strong understanding of these concepts.

Science:
We will begin our unit on living vs. non-living things later this week. We will officially start this lesson on Friday, and I am looking forward to introducing this topic to the class.

Handwriting:
This week we are focusing strictly on writing first and last names using proper capitalization and correct letter formation. We will also begin placing more emphasis on lowercase letters, as these tend to be the most challenging for students. This is completely developmentally appropriate, as uppercase letters are typically easier to form.

Social Studies:
We learned about the Bahamas and explored some of its history.

Religion:
Religion is back on track as we continue learning Bible stories from the Old Testament. This week, we are learning about the prophet Isaiah.

Reading:
We are working together as a class to read a short story, focusing on comprehension and participation.
