Hi all, I hope you are having a blessed week! To start, I want to thank you for attending parent-teacher conferences and for taking time out of your schedules to meet and discuss your child’s progress as the year continues. It is always wonderful to see each of you and to continue working together as a team to prepare the class for the remainder of the year and for first grade.
Math
In math, we are continuing with Unit 9, which focuses on decomposing numbers. The class is doing a great job understanding these concepts! We will begin Unit 10 next week, which will focus on addition. I will post vocabulary words next week. If you are able to practice any of these concepts at home or in real-life situations, it is a wonderful way to connect school learning to everyday life.
Social Studies
In social studies, we are continuing to learn about other countries, including their culture, wildlife, history, and importance. Next week, we will be discussing Mexico and Hispanic culture.
Handwriting
In handwriting, we are back to our normal lessons and continuing to work on both uppercase and lowercase letters. Students have also been practicing writing their names and numbers as morning work when they arrive at school.
Science
In science, we will begin discussing the Earth and the sky. I believe this will be a fun and engaging unit, as students have shown a strong interest in the solar system and outer space.
Reading Groups
We have officially begun reading groups! We began on Tuesday, and overall the class did a great job staying on task and working together when needed. Students rotated through word-building activities, laptop work, and independent work.
