I hope you are staying healthy and having a blessed week. I want to start this newsletter by giving huge kudos to the class<\/strong>, these past two weeks back in school have been incredibly smooth. The class has been absolutely killing it<\/em>! I have seen major growth not only academically, but socially as well. We just completed Unit 8 and will be moving on to Unit 9, which focuses on decomposing numbers (breaking numbers down). For example: 5 and 5 make 10, or 7 and 7 make 14. Our key vocabulary for this unit includes break apart<\/em>, ten-frame<\/em>, and count<\/em>. We are really getting into the nitty-gritty of kindergarten math from this point on! Addition and subtraction will begin appearing in the next unit or two.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
We are continuing to focus on writing our names and practicing lowercase letters. I can truly see improvement in handwriting, as well as continued development of fine motor skills.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
This week we learned about our neighbors to the north, Canada! The students really enjoy learning about new places and how they differ from the United States.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
We are continuing Unit 2 on Living and Non-Living Things. We watched a short video about biodiversity and discussed how all living things rely on one another to live and survive. We also talked about how humans, in particular, impact the environment and other living things.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
We are doing great in religion class! We are still learning about Old Testament stories. I have also been reading a children\u2019s book called The Story of Jesus<\/em>, which gives a brief overview of Jesus\u2019 life and the miracles He performed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
We are reading a short story about animals and working on blends and word completion. I am beginning to allow students to work more independently on these assignments so I can better gauge their progress and provide one-on-one support as needed. We will begin small reading groups soon, which will require students to work independently while I meet with small groups.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Parent\/Teacher Conferences will be held January 15\u201316. There will be a half day on January 15 and no school on January 16. Early dismissal for grades K\u20132 begins at 11:30 AM<\/strong>.
During the third quarter, our classroom offerings will go to Lutheran Bible Translators<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
