Rules & Regulations
- Athletes may participate in up to three individual events (two running/one field, or one running/two field). They cannot participate in three running events or three field events. Athletes may run in one relay event in addition to their individual events. *(Please watch this, it is the most common mistake on entries!)
- Divisions will be:
- 5th Grade Boys
- 5th Grade Girls
- 6th Grade Boys
- 6th Grade Girls
- 7th Grade Boys
- 7th Grade Girls
- 8th Grade Boys
- 8th Grade Girls
- Individuals may compete at or above grade level but not below.
- Schools may enter ONLY three individuals in each track and field event for each division.
- All event changes are to be done by noon on Thursday, May 9th. Changes will not be allowed after that time. No changes will be allowed the day of.
- There will be a coaches’ meeting at 8:00 a.m. on Saturday, May 11th.
- The Hope Lutheran Athletic Director must approve substitutions for relay teams due to injury. No other substitutions will be allowed after noon on Thursday, May 9th.
- No athletes will be added to the roster sheets at any of the event sites. Scratches are allowed.
- Unless otherwise specified, we will follow the NFHS rules for Track and Field including the 2024 rule updates. These can be accessed at NFHS.org.
- Participant changes deadline: Thursday, May 9th at noon. We will be doing lane assignments immediately after the deadline and all entrants must be in for the lane assignments to be fairly distributed.
If parents wish their child to remain anonymous, please do not enter their full name. The results database is searchable. Please ask if you have any questions regarding this.
Event Notes
- All throwing events (discus, shot put, and turbo javelin) will be held behind the bleachers.
- All grades of girls and boys will participate in discus, shot put, and turbo javelin. 7th & 8th boys will throw a 8.8 lb (4 kg) shot; all other divisions throw a 6 lb. shot. Shots will be provided. A 300 g turbo javelin will be used. A 1 kg discus will be used.
- Only the 100 meter dash has preliminaries. All other races will be run as finals. If there are not enough participants to run preliminaries, then the event will be run as finals.
- The finals of the 100 meter dash will be determined by the best eight times.
- Any false start is charged to the field and then any second false start results in a disqualification of that athlete.
general Notes
- Spikes for a composition track will be permitted. These should be no longer than 1/8″.
- Starting blocks will be permitted but not provided.
- No shade will be available, so bring sunscreen. Please dress for the weather as it could be very windy or chilly that day. There is a very large bleacher area for teams and families.
- The time schedule is approximate times. Please be aware that the order of events is what is important not the time it is scheduled. We may run them ahead of schedule so make sure your athletes are prepared.
- No one will be allowed in the center of the field. We would ask that your athletes stay totally out of that area to assist the timers.
- Points are as follows: 1st place = 10 points, 2nd place = 8 points, 3rd place = 6 points, 4th place = 4 points, 5th place = 2 points, 6th place = 1 point.
- Individual ribbons will be given to the top six places in each event. Ribbons will be available for pickup after the event ends. We ask that one person per team be assigned to pick up ribbons at the end of the track meet.
- We will follow the COVID protocols as set by Shawnee Mission North.
