Will the groundhog see his shadow tomorrow morning and predict 6 more weeks of winter weather or an early spring?!?! I am so thankful for the beautiful days that God has given us to enjoy in this last week!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Ash Wednesday Chapel<\/strong>\u00a0\u2013 As part of this service on Wednesday, February 14th, the children may participate in the imposition of ashes.\u00a0 If you do not want your child to participate, please let his\/her teacher know.\u00a0 The children do not have to participate if they do not wish to.\u00a0 If you have any questions, please get in touch with the school office. Chapel service will be held in the sanctuary. Parents are welcome to attend.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Student Ushers<\/strong>\u00a0\u2013 The season of Lent begins with Ash Wednesday and continues up until Easter. 3rd grade has been asked to help with handing out service folders and ushering for the 4:00 Wednesday Lenten Services beginning on February 21st. This is an opportunity for the students to be involved in a way that they enjoy and can be of service to the congregation that supports our school in so many ways. Student helpers can stay with me after school and I will accompany them to the sanctuary and stay with them until after the service.\u00a0Please use this Sign-Up Genius to indicate which service(s) your child could be available to serve. It is not expected that your child serves every week, but please indicate any\/all weeks that it would be possible.\u00a0\u00a0Lenten student usher sign-up<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Our class\u00a0Valentine’s<\/strong> party\u00a0will be on Wednesday, Feb. 14.\u00a0 As you are making out valentines, please be sure to include everyone in the class. Please be sure that your child signs his\/her name on the valentine so that the recipient will know whom to thank.\u00a0(You will find a list of student names for our class in today’s envelope to help in filling out valentines.) This year we will decorate bags at school to collect our valentines, so students will not be making and\/or bringing Valentine boxes from home.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Book report<\/strong>\u00a0\u2013 Project information and rubric for our biography book reports sent home in last week\u2019s envelope. For this book report, they will be making a timeline of their person.\u00a0 Students have access to colored paper in the classroom to use for this project if needed. The due date is Friday, March 1st. I have quite a few biographies available in the classroom, but students are not limited to those. Books need to be selected by next Monday, February 5. I am encouraging them to jot down important dates and events as they are reading so that they have the information for their timelines.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Open House<\/strong>\u00a0\u2013 We have 2 more nights of Open House this month on the 7th and 13th. Parents are encouraged to come to visit your child\u2019s classroom for next year on the 13th. Each Open House is open to anyone interested in attending Hope next year. We look forward to seeing you and new faces too!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Science Fair<\/strong> \u2013 This year’s school-wide end-of-the-year event is a Science Fair on May 1st. This is a required project for all full-time students. A packet of information is in today’s envelope. The majority of the project is to be done at home. There will be dates and items that students need to bring in to check and be graded. Because this is a Science Fair, students should be doing experiments that follow the Scientific Method. They should begin with a question, followed by a hypothesis and experiment and collection of data that support or disprove the hypothesis. This project should not be a model that explains a process. I have shared a list of over 200 ideas with the class and they are getting excited about their ideas!<\/p>\n\n\n\n
