The excitement is growing!<\/strong> We are anxiously waiting and watching the eggs in our incubator. We are hoping that they will hatch sometime next week!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Science Fair<\/strong>
The Science Fair is quickly approaching! The students have been working to prepare so that they will be ready to share their projects. The completed project is due tomorrow, April 26th. Students should have their display board, report, yellow science fair notebook, and note cards for their oral presentation in the classroom by tomorrow, but items that they may be setting out on the table from their experiment should not be brought in until next when we set the displays up in the Family Life Center. We look forward to seeing their project at the Science Fair next Wednesday, May 1st.  We will have one evening where parents and family can see and hear the projects.  The students will arrive at 6:20 pm and stand by their project until 7:15 pm. From 6:30 \u2013 7:15 pm, the students will present their projects to guests.  At 7:15 pm, the students will be dismissed to their parents, and as a family, you can walk around and see other projects. At 7:30 pm, projects will go home with the students. Students must wear uniforms.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Oxford Schoolhouse<\/strong>
We are looking forward to our field trip to the historic Oxford schoolhouse next Friday, May 3rd, where we will get the chance to experience a living history day in a rural one-room schoolhouse as students in 1909! Thank you to those who have signed up to drive! This has been a favorite field trip in the past as we dress in period clothing for this day<\/strong>. (The standard outfit of the day for boys was bib overalls, blue jeans or dungarees made of sturdy fabric with cotton, or flannel shirts. Any color shirt was appropriate other than white as it was impossible to keep white clean on an active farm boy. Girls wore dresses that fell anywhere below the knee but above the ankle. She might wear a pinafore or apron to keep her dress clean. Large hair bows were popular at the time. She usually wore black tights or stockings. Both girls and boys wore leather shoes or ankle boots.) We will also need to bring sack lunches for this day. <\/strong>Again, we are encouraged to stay with the period in history so sandwiches and fruit or cheese would be appropriate.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Fine Arts Night<\/strong>
We are excited about the opportunity to showcase our Arts department.  Our music directors have worked with the students all year on music theory, rhythm, and voice.  During the evening, each choir will be performing.  Our bands and recorders, directed by Mrs. Eckhoff, will also perform.  Mrs. Bird\u2019s art class projects will be displayed around the building; families will be invited to an Open House where they can enjoy the art projects done by the students. 
Students will arrive at 6:15 pm and meet their teacher in their classroom. After the music performance, students return to their classrooms; parents pick them up.  
Students in Kindergarten \u2013 2nd grade are to wear their Sunday best.  The 3rd \u2013 8th grade students are to wear WHITE TOPS AND BLACK BOTTOMS. <\/strong>
There will be a cookie reception after the program in the commons. <\/strong>
In addition, we will also have a SILENT AUCTION <\/strong>with the class art projects.  You can start bidding on them today<\/strong>!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Hope Track Meet<\/strong>
This is a big meet that Hope hosts every spring. This year it will be at the district stadium at Shawnee Mission North High School. It takes lots of people working together for this event. Even though students can\u2019t compete in track until 4th grade, you can still volunteer to help out. There are many different jobs to fill so you don\u2019t have to have knowledge about a certain event to be of service. You also do not need to be at the track all day. Even the kids can help by being \u201crunners\u201d to take results from an event up to the people who are keeping the stats! With all of this activity, we are still working hard to learn as much as we can in the classroom yet! We have just finished working on finding the area of a shape in math this week. Next, we will focus on finding the perimeter and then end the year working with elapsed time. We are continuing with Little House on the Prairie during reading. In science, we will be focusing on weather. We continue to diagram sentences in our language art time. We have been learning about the 3 branches of government in social studies. During our Bible study time, we have been working in the book of Acts and taking note of the many gifts God gives us each and every day!<\/p>\n\n\n\n
