Our year is going by so quickly, and we have so much to do yet! These next weeks will be busy ones!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Chicks<\/strong>
The anticipation in our classroom grew this week as we put eggs into our incubator on Wednesday! It is hard to wait 21 days! We will review life science as we look at the chicken\u2019s life cycle and hopefully get to see God\u2019s handiwork firsthand through the miracle of the development and hatching of chicks in our classroom! (Thank you to the Schempp family for supplying us with the eggs!<\/em>)<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Oxford Schoolhouse<\/strong>
We are looking forward to our field trip to the historic Oxford schoolhouse on Friday, April 17, where we will experience a living history day as students in a rural one-room schoolhouse in 1909! This has been a favorite field trip in the past, as we dress in period clothing for this day. (The standard outfit of the day for boys was bib overalls, blue jeans or dungarees made of sturdy fabric with cotton or flannel shirts. Any color shirt was appropriate, other than white, as it was impossible to keep white clean on an active farm boy. Girls wore dresses that fell anywhere below the knee but above the ankle. She might wear a pinafore or apron to keep her dress clean. Large hair bows were popular at the time. She usually wore black tights or stockings. Both girls and boys wore leather shoes or ankle boots.) We will also need to bring sack lunches for this day. Again, we are encouraged to stay with the historical period, so sandwiches and fruit or cheese would be appropriate.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Jog-a-thon<\/strong>
We had a great day for our Jog-a-thon! \u201cRunning for Health and Safety. Strengthening Care. Supporting Every Student.\u201d Each student has a goal to raise $350. Please tell family and friends. We are still accepting donations until April 10, 2026, at 6:00 pm CST. Donations can be made at the following link: https:\/\/hopelutheran.dojiggy.io\/2026-jog-a-thon\/t\/43e021.<\/em><\/a>
<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Celebrating America, 250 Years in the Making<\/strong>
The Celebrate America Fair is on April 30th, which is quickly approaching!  Our class will focus on pioneers who moved across the prairie, heading west. Students will be conducting their research at school. On the evening of the event, students will be in costume and display a pioneer artifact.  (I may be able to help with costuming if needed, as we will also need it for our trip to the Oxford Historical Schoolhouse.  If you have any questions or concerns about this, I am happy to help and assist you with this task.) Their pioneer packets need to be kept in their homework folders to bring back to school each day. We will be using it as a working copy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Talent Show<\/strong>
We are having a talent show on May 8th.  If your child wants to perform in the show, remember that their entry forms are due back at school by April 30th<\/strong>. (Forms in this week\u2019s Thursday envelopes.)<\/p>\n\n\n\n
