Newsletter Aug. 31

August 30, 2023

This week we are still getting getting used to being 7th graders and officially being middle schoolers. I’m excited to see all the students putting forth an effort to learn new procedures. This is a big change from 6th grade, but they are starting to get it.

Our school theme is “Connected” with our verse of “I am the vine; you are the branches. Whoever abides in me and I in him, he it is that bears much fruit, for apart from me you can do nothing.“–John 15:1-5.

Thursday envelopes – Please sign the envelope, and return it to school each week.

Chapel offerings will go to LeadaChild for 1st quarter.

Student Council – Student Council permission slips have been passed out, if your student is planning on running, they need to bring the packet back by tomorrow (September 1). Students who are running will need to bring in a maximum of three posters and their speeches by September 8th, for Mrs. Jankowski to approve. Parents are welcome to attend the speeches in the sanctuary on September 13, at 2:10 pm.

Pep Rally for Fall Sports – Parents are invited to join us on Thursday, September 7 at 2:00 pm in FLC gym to get fired up about the fall sports teams.  We will be recognizing the soccer and volleyball teams and the band will be playing.

40th Anniversary Bash – Hope Lutheran School is celebrating 40 years of ministry on Saturday, September 9 from 4-7 pm.  The school choirs and band will perform at the celebration.  Kindergarten-2nd grade students should meet their teachers at the picnic tables at 4:45 pm.  3rd-8th grade students should meet their teachers in the FLC commons at 4:45 pm.  The choirs will sing at 5:00 pm, and the band will perform after the choirs.  Students will be dismissed from the picnic tables to parents after they perform.  Students should wear Hope shirts and appropriate shorts.  If your student is unable to attend, please contact Mrs. Schkade or Mrs. Eckhoff.

Fall Conferences – We will have our fall Parent Conferences on Thursday, Sept. 21 and Friday, Sept. 22. Parents will meet with the middle school team together in 25 minute time slots. You will receive your child’s mid-term progress report at the conference. It is important that we meet with parents of all full-time students. Homeschool parents, please contact me to set up a time to meet on a different day please. Use this link to select a time that works for you: Middle School Conference Sign-up

Field Trips – We have two field trips coming up. Our first field trip is September 19. The 7th and 8th graders will be going to Garnett, KS to tour an Ethanol plant and the Anderson County Historical Museum, and Harrison House. We have received a grant to pay for a bus.

The second field trip is at Timber Ridge on September 26. Permission forms and health waivers are being sent home in your students’ Thursday envelope, 8/24, both forms are due back by Tuesday. Sept. 5.

We need parent drivers for the Timber Ridge field trip on September 26. Parent chaperones are welcome, if you decide to chaperone, the school will send home a waiver for you to fill out. Also, if you plan on driving, make sure you have a current background check and DL copy in the office.
