Newsletter Feb. 8

February 7, 2024

Saturday Zachariah represented Hope Lutheran School at the Johnson County Spelling Bee. Zacharia placed 31st out of 45 competitors.

Our school theme is “Connected” with our verse of “I am the vine; you are the branches. Whoever abides in me and I in him, he it is that bears much fruit, for apart from me you can do nothing.“–John 15:1-5.

Chapel offerings – Will go to Comfort Dogs Ministry. Please encourage your student to bring an offering.

Basketball & Cheer Pictures – On Thursday, Feb. 8 after school we will have our basketball and cheer pictures. Make sure to bring your uniform.

Open House Nights

Red FridayStudents can wear Chiefs shirts with uniform bottoms to school on Friday 2/9

Friendship Grams – Student Council will be selling Friendship grams before school on February 5-9.  The cost is $1.00 each.

Valentine’s Day – Just a reminder that 7th & 8th grades do not have Valentine’s Day parties. I will bring in a small treat for the class that day. We also ask that students don’t bring valentine cards to hand out, but encourage students to purchase Friendship Grams instead. Students will be allowed to wear a Valentines Day top with uniform bottoms. If we do not have school on Wednesday due to the Chief’s winning the Super Bowl, then the students will be allowed to wear their Valentines Day shirt Thursday

Spring Play – Mrs. McIntosh will be our drama coach for our 7th/8th grade Spring Play. Auditions will be held on Monday, February 12th at 3:45 pm – 4:30 pm.  Rehearsals will be during school on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 2:15-4:00 pm starting on Feb. 20. The spring play is called The Pony Expresso and will be performed on April 18-19. If you have any questions, please email Mrs. Mcintosh at mcintosh@hopelutheran.org.

ASH WEDNESDAY CHAPEL – As part of this service on Wednesday, February 14th, the children may participate in the imposition of ashes.  If you do not want your child to participate, please let his/her teacher know.  The children do not have to participate if they do not wish to.  If you have any questions, please get in touch with the school office. Chapel service will be held in the sanctuary. Parents are welcome to attend.

SuperBowl – If the Chiefs win the SuperBowl, we will not have school on Wednesday so that families can attend the parade.  In that case, our weekly Chapel will move to Thursday morning, but ashes will not be offered.

Mite BoxesDON’T FORGET TO BE PUTTING YOUR COINS IN YOUR MITE BOXES. We are encouraging all children at Hope Lutheran School to fill their MITE BOX and bring it back on February 28th for chapel.  The best way to fill the mite box is to put your loose change from the car or have the children put in a penny a day.  As an incentive for the 7th graders to collect coins, I will award 5 minutes of extra recess time for every $5 collected.  Thank you for supporting the LWML.

Quiz Bowl – Starting next week, Thursdays and Fridays from 3:45 – 4:30, we will hold Quiz Bowl practice. The coaches are Mr. McCarthy and Mr. Schkade. For more information, please contact Mr. McCarthy at mccarthy@hopelutheran.org
