Newsletter April 11

April 10, 2024

KAP testing is starting Monday, April 15, please make sure that your students eat a good breakfast and get plenty of sleep, so they can improve their scores from last year and gain extra credit in that subject.

Our school theme is “Connected” with our verse of “I am the vine; you are the branches. Whoever abides in me and I in him, he it is that bears much fruit, for apart from me you can do nothing.“–John 15:1-5.

Chapel offerings – Will go to the Guatemala mission trip. Please encourage your student to bring an offering.

Washington Trip – Our meeting has to be rescheduled again, I will update you when it has been rescheduled.

Read-a-thon – Our Read-a-thon is well underway! Our class is raising money for 6 Chromebooks. So far, our class has raised $605 of our $3,200 goal, and we have read 1027 minutes as a class. Use this link: Reader Account Sign-up (use code 3215667) to sign up, if your student has not already signed up. In addition to the rewards offered by the school for meeting goals, our class will have special incentives.  Please share your child’s account information with friends and family so they can support our reading efforts.

Read-A-Thon Days

Science Fair Boards – Please return the letter with your decision about your child’s tri-fold board format by April 15th.

Spring Play – Rehearsals will be during school on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 2:15-4:00 pm. The spring play is called The Pony Expresso and will be performed on April 18th at 4:30 pm and 7:00 pm. There will be a dinner in between the two performances.

Olympic Day – Money for the lunch should be brought to school by April 22nd.

Movie Night – Student Council is hosting an outdoor movie night on Friday, April 12th in the school parking lot.  They will be showing the movie “Migration” starting at 8:30 pm.  It is a free event, you just need to bring your lawn chairs!

KAP Testing – Students will be taking the annual KAP test over Language Arts, Math, and Science soon.  This is an important test used to measure your child’s growth each year.  In an effort to have students take the test seriously and do their best, the middle school team is offering extra credit to students who improve their scores from last year.  You can help your student by encouraging them to put away electronic devices, get a good night’s sleep, and have them eat a filling breakfast before school.

Chromebooks – Make sure your student is charging their laptops every night. Students are unable to charge their Chromebooks while at school, so it is important they are charging them while at home. We have noticed an increase in 7th grade Chromebooks coming to school insufficiently charged. Therefore, we have updated our Chromebook policy. If students come in and their laptop is not charged, they will miss recess, if this continues, the third time they come in without their laptop charged, they will have a silent lunch. If there is a problem with your students laptop, they need to email the technology department or notify their classroom teacher, so that we can get the issue resolved.

Candy Policy – Please make sure that your student is not bringing any candy for lunch or a snack.

Religion – Make sure your student is bringing their Bibles and Luther’s Small Catechism to school.

Tests/Quizzes – Make sure your student is holding onto their tests and quizzes for each class, they are good study tools for the finals in May.

OUTDOOR RECESS POLICY
Per our handbook policy on page 14, on most days, students will be expected to go outside for recess.  If the following conditions exist, the students will not be taken out except to get a few minutes of fresh air:

  • The temperature is 15 degrees F (-13 C) or below.  The wind chill index is 0 (-18 C) or below.
  • There is significant falling moisture.
  • Teachers may take their classes out briefly for fresh air at their discretion.
  • Students must have a jacket/coat to go outside to recess if the temperature is 50 degrees or below; hoodies are good for Middle School Students if it is 50 degrees or warmer.
