NewsLetter April 17

April 17, 2024

Please make plans to attend the Spring Play tonight and support the 7th and 8th grade students. Also, today marks the mid point of the 4th quarter.

Our school theme is “Connected” with our verse of “I am the vine; you are the branches. Whoever abides in me and I in him, he it is that bears much fruit, for apart from me you can do nothing.“–John 15:1-5.

Chapel offerings – Will go to the Guatemala mission trip. Please encourage your student to bring an offering.

Read-a-thon – Monday, April 22nd is the last day to donate to the Read-a-thon!  So far, our class has raised $1185 of our $3200 goal, and we have read 3031 minutes as a class.  Please share your child’s account information with friends and family so they can support our reading efforts.

Spring Play – The spring play is called The Pony Expresso and will be performed this Thursday, April 18th at 4:30 pm and 7:00 pm. There will be a dinner in between the two performances.

Olympic Day – Middle School students will be going to Lutheran High School April 25th to compete in the Olympic Day activities.  Students should wear their PE uniform and tennis shoes.  Please send a water bottle and sunscreen also.  Money for the hot lunch should be brought to school by April 22nd.  If your child did not order a hot lunch, they need to bring a sack lunch and everything needs to be disposable.  Microwaves are not available for lunch.

Washington Trip – Our meeting has to be rescheduled again, I will update you when it has been rescheduled.

KAP Testing – We are finishing up KAP testing this week.  You can help your student do their best on the test by encouraging them to put away electronic devices, get a good night’s sleep, and have them eat a filling breakfast before school.  Please make sure your child’s Chromebook is charged before coming to school on testing days.
KAP testing schedule:
Friday, April 19 – Science
Monday, April 22 – Language Arts
Wednesday, April 24 – Math

Donuts with Dad – Bring your dad, grandpa, or uncle to Donuts with Dad on Friday, April 19th from 7:45 to 8:25 am. Come enjoy fellowship with other dads.

Talent Show – Hope’s annual Talent Show will be on Tuesday, April 23rd in the FLC at 2 pm.  Families are invited to join us.

Class Pictures – Class Pictures will be on Thursday, May 2nd. We are still working to finalize a schedule, but details will be shared as soon as possible.  To order pictures online, go to http://inter-state.com/order and use order code: 80647N.

Science Fair – Our students have been hard at work on their SCIENCE FAIR PROJECTS.  We look forward to seeing their project at the SCIENCE Fair on May 1st.  We will have one evening where parents and family can see and hear the projects.  The students will arrive at 6:20 pm and stand by their project until 7:15 pm. From 6:30 – 7:15 pm, the students will present their projects to guests.  At 7:15 pm, the students will be dismissed to their parents, and as a family, you can walk around and see other projects. At 7:30 pm, projects will go home with the students. Students must wear uniforms.

Fine Arts Night – We are excited about the opportunity to showcase our Arts department.  Our music directors have worked with the students all year on music theory, rhythm, and voice.  During the evening, each choir will be performing and the spring play students will perform a scene.  Our bands and recorders, directed by Mrs. Eckhoff, will also perform.  Mrs. Bird’s art class projects will be displayed around the building; families will be invited to an Open House where they can enjoy the art projects done by the students.

Students will arrive at 6:15 pm and meet their teacher in their classroom. After the music performance, students return to their classrooms; parents pick them up. Students in Kindergarten – 2nd grade are to wear their Sunday best.  The 3rd – 8th grade students are to wear WHITE TOPS AND BLACK BOTTOMS.  There will be a cookie reception after the program in the commons.

In addition, we will also have a SILENT AUCTION with the class art projects.  You can start bidding on them on April 25th.

Chromebooks – Make sure your student is charging their laptops every night. Students are unable to charge their Chromebooks while at school, so it is important they are charging them while at home. We have noticed an increase in 7th grade Chromebooks coming to school insufficiently charged. Therefore, we have updated our Chromebook policy. If students come in and their laptop is not charged, they will miss recess, if this continues, the third time they come in without their laptop charged, they will have a silent lunch. If there is a problem with your students laptop, they need to email the technology department or notify their classroom teacher, so that we can get the issue resolved.

Candy Policy – Please make sure that your student is not bringing any candy for lunch or a snack.

Religion – Make sure your student is bringing their Bibles and Luther’s Small Catechism to school.

Tests/Quizzes – Make sure your student is holding onto their tests and quizzes for each class, they are good study tools for the finals in a couple weeks.

OUTDOOR RECESS POLICY
Per our handbook policy on page 14, on most days, students will be expected to go outside for recess.  If the following conditions exist, the students will not be taken out except to get a few minutes of fresh air:

  • The temperature is 15 degrees F (-13 C) or below.  The wind chill index is 0 (-18 C) or below.
  • There is significant falling moisture.
  • Teachers may take their classes out briefly for fresh air at their discretion.
  • Students must have a jacket/coat to go outside to recess if the temperature is 50 degrees or below; hoodies are good for Middle School Students if it is 50 degrees or warmer.
