Newsletter May 16

The 7th graders tied with Kindergarten in the box top challenge, to celebrate, the students will be able to break into a pinata Monday, May 20, when we go to the park. With this being the last newsletter of the year, I wanted to say thank you for all of the support and encouragement I have received this year.

Our school theme is “Connected” with our verse of “I am the vine; you are the branches. Whoever abides in me and I in him, he it is that bears much fruit, for apart from me you can do nothing.“–John 15:1-5.

Chapel offerings – Will go to the Guatemala mission trip. Please encourage your student to bring an offering.

Finals – Today, the students will be taking their Mathematics Final.

Chromebooks – Chromebooks and chargers are being turned in today. One requirement for your student to get their report card is to have their Chromebooks and chargers turned in.

Picnic Day – On Monday, May 20th, the 7th & 8th graders will be walking to Gum Springs Park to have a picnic lunch and to play kickball from 12:30-3:00 pm. Homeschoolers are invited to join us.  Students should bring a disposable sack lunch, water bottle, and sunscreen.  We will not need chaperones for Picnic Day. Students should wear their normal school uniforms.

Sports Recognition Night – On Monday, May 20th, Hope will have its Sports Recognition Night. This event will start at 5:30pm.

School Lunch/Breakfast – The school will stop serving school breakfast today, May 16th, and stop serving school lunches on Tuesday, May 21st.

Field Day – On Tuesday, May 21st, Hope will be holding its Field Day. Field Day will take place from 9-11:30am. Due to the students being physically active, 4th-8th grade will come to school wearing their P.E. uniforms. School lunch for the day will be a hot dog, chips, carrots, and oreos. Parents are welcome to attend and cheer on the students.

Science City – On Wednesday, May 22nd, the 7th & 8th graders will be headed to Union Station for a scavenger hunt and exploration time at Science City from 10:30 am-3:00 pm. We will eat a sack lunch near Union Station between activities. Students should wear their normal school uniforms. Homeschoolers are invited to join us. We will need parent drivers for this trip, so please let me know if you are able to attend.

Yearbook Signing Party – On Wednesday, May 22nd, Hope will hold its yearbook signing party. This will take place from 8:45am – 9:15am. If your student did not order a yearbook, an autograph book has been made for them. Students have been told to just sign their name in the autograph section of the yearbook.

Last Day of School – Our last day of school is Thursday, May 23rd. We will have a chapel service at 8:40am and should be finishing up awards around 10:30am. Students should wear their normal school uniforms. Parents/family members are welcome to come to the chapel service.

Washington Trip – Our meeting has to be rescheduled to tonight, May 16, at 5:30pm.

Candy Policy – Please make sure that your student is not bringing any candy for lunch or a snack.

OUTDOOR RECESS POLICY
Per our handbook policy on page 14, on most days, students will be expected to go outside for recess.  If the following conditions exist, the students will not be taken out except to get a few minutes of fresh air:

  • The temperature is 15 degrees F (-13 C) or below.  The wind chill index is 0 (-18 C) or below.  
  • There is significant falling moisture.
  • Teachers may take their classes out briefly for fresh air at their discretion.
  • Students must have a jacket/coat to go outside to recess if the temperature is 50 degrees or below; hoodies are good for Middle School Students if it is 50 degrees or warmer.
