Newsletter Sept. 21

September 20, 2023

We had our first field trip of the year on Tuesday September 19. The students really enjoyed the different smells of the Ethanol plant, playing bingo at the Anderson County Historical Museum, and getting scared by mannequins at the Harrison House. Make plans to attend the October 11th chapel service as the 7th graders will be leading it.

Our school theme is “Connected” with our verse of “I am the vine; you are the branches. Whoever abides in me and I in him, he it is that bears much fruit, for apart from me you can do nothing.“–John 15:1-5.

Chapel offerings will go to LeadaChild for 1st quarter.

Pie Fundraiser – Order forms for the Pie Fundraiser have been sent home. Checks can be made payable to Hope Lutheran. Please have order forms and payments returned to school by today, Thursday, September 21. Pies will be delivered in November.  This is a fundraiser for the 8th grade Washington, DC trip.

Fall Conferences – We will have our fall Parent Conferences today, Thursday, Sept. 21 and Friday, Sept. 22. Parents will meet with the middle school team together in 25 minute time slots. You will receive your child’s mid-term progress report and Thursday envelope at the conference. It is important that we meet with parents of all full-time students. Homeschool parents, please contact me to set up a time to meet on a different day please. Use this link to select a time that works for you: Middle School Conference Sign-up. Please arrive a few minutes early so you can complete a survey for the school

Mrs. Maresko – Mrs. Maresko’s funeral will take place at Hope Lutheran Church on Friday, September 22, at 11am. The visitation starts at 9:30am.

Field Trips – The second field trip of the year is at Timber Ridge on Tuesday, September 26. Thank you to everyone who volunteered to drive/chaperone. Students need to wear their P.E. uniforms, bring a disposable sack lunch, a water bottle, wear closed toes shoes. Also, make sure your student applies sunscreen/bug spray before coming into school.

Fentanyl Presentation

As you may have heard (or maybe not) Fentanyl is a problem in the United States, especially for our youth, but what you don’t know about this problem may surprise you.  Beautiful Savior Lutheran Church (13145 S Black Bob Rd, Olathe, KS 66062) in Olathe is putting on a fentanyl awareness presentation on Sunday, October 1st at 1:30pm.  This presentation is put together by Captain John Diaz with the KCK police department and Libby Davis with Keepin Clean for COOP.

The presentation will go from 1:30-3:00pm and there will be separate sessions for youth (middle school and up) and parents.

Any questions please reach out to Pastor Ada pastorada@bslcks.org or Jennifer Bertels jennifermbertels@gmail.com.

Advanced Band – Advanced Band plays at church on Sunday, October 1 at the 10:30 am service.

If you have any questions feel free to email me at any point, I will get back to you within 24 hours. If you need to talk to me in person, please email me so we can set up a day and time to meet.
