Baptism is not just plain water, but it is the water included in God\u2019s command and combined with God\u2019s word.<br>Which is the word of God? Christ our Lord says in the last chapter of Matthew: \u201cTherefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Friday, Feb. 13 <\/strong><strong>The Sacrament of Holy Baptism <\/strong><strong><br><\/strong>Second &#8211; What benefits does Baptism give? It works forgiveness of sins, rescues from death and the devil, and gives eternal salvation to all who believe this, as the words and promises of God declare.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Which are these words and promises of God? Christ our Lord says in the last chapter of Mark: \u201cWhoever believes and is baptized will be saved, but whoever does not believe will be condemned.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Friday, Feb. 20 <\/strong><strong>&#8211; The Sacrament of Holy Baptism <\/strong><strong><br><\/strong>Third &#8211; How can water do such great things? Certainly not just water, but the word of God in and with the water does these things, along with the faith which trusts this word of God in the water. For without God\u2019s word the water is plain water and no Baptism. But with the word of God it is a Baptism, that is, a life-giving water, rich in grace, and a washing of the new birth in the Holy Spirit, as St. Paul says in Titus chapter 3.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Friday, Feb. 27 &#8211; Titus 3:5-8<\/strong><strong><br><\/strong>\u201cHe saved us through the washing of rebirth and the renewal by the Holy Spirit, whom He poured out on us generously through Jesus Christ our Savior, so that, having been justified by His grace, we might become heirs having the hope of eternal life. This is a trustworthy saying.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Friday, March 6 The Sacrament of Holy Baptism<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Fourth What does such baptizing with water indicate? It indicates that the Old Adam in us should by daily contrition and repentance be drowned and die with all sins and evil desires, and that a new man should daily emerge and arise to live before God in righteousness and purity forever.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>THURSDAY, March 13 &#8211; Isaiah 43:1-3<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>1 But now thus says the Lord,<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>he who created you, O Jacob,<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;he who formed you, O Israel:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cFear not, for I have redeemed you;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;I have called you by name, you are mine.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>2 When you pass through the waters, I will be with you;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;and through the rivers, they shall not overwhelm you;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>when you walk through fire you shall not be burned,<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;and the flame shall not consume you.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>3 For I am the Lord your God,<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;the Holy One of Israel, your Savior.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I give Egypt as your ransom,<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;Cush and Seba in exchange for you.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Friday, March 27 &#8211; Sacrament of the Altar<\/strong><strong><br><\/strong>What is the Sacrament of the Altar?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It is the true body and blood of our Lord Jesus Christ under the bread and wine, instituted by Christ Himself for us Christians to eat and to drink.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Where is this written?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The holy Evangelists Matthew, Mark, Luke, and St. Paul write: Our Lord Jesus Christ, on the night when He was betrayed, took bread, and when He had given thanks, He broke it and gave it to the disciples and said: \u201cTake, eat; this is My body, which is given for you. This do in remembrance of Me.\u201d In the same way also He took the cup after supper, and when He had given thanks, He gave it to them, saying: \u201cDrink of it, all of you; this cup is the new testament in My blood, which is shed for you for the forgiveness of sins.
