Newsletter Week of 1/6-1/10

December 18, 2024

Parent/Teacher Conferences: Please sign up for a time slot to meet with me about your child’s progress for this school year. CLICK HERE!

Math: We have tested our Number Theory and Fraction skills, and after Christmas break we will be expanding those skills by subtracting fractions. Please, feel free to have your child work on their math facts at home on 99math.com!

Reading: We have finished reading the novel, The Angel Tree, which is a Christmas mystery book about a group of children on a mission to find out who is granting wishes tied to the Angel Tree in town. We are doing a book report on the book for the remainder of December and into the New Year as a final project to conclude the novel unit. This project allows us to share our understanding of the plot, characters, theme, setting, and a personal review of the novel.

Spelling: We are going back to having 20 words for our spelling lists.

Writing: We are working on creating our own Christmas short stories leading up to Christmas break. This is a fun way to focus on our writing, language, and creativity. We will be recording our stories and posting them within our Google Classroom to share with one another. This Friday we will be reading our stories to the class as we enjoy Christmas Treats!

Social Studies: We began learning about the Northeast (The Mid-Atlantic States). Each section will give us a good overview of the states within this region. This chapter will give us an overview including the history, important people, the environment, important places, the economy, and the culture of the Northeast states. Those states include: Maine, New Hampshire, Vermont, Massachusetts, Connecticut, and Rhode Island. Shortly after Christmas break, I will provide a map to study the Southeast Region states and capitals. Be on the lookout in these newsletters for dates of the pretest and the final test for that region.

Below is the exact resource I will be using. The maps will be labeled with a number, and the students will write the State and Capital that matches the location on the map. It would be a great resource to print for studying and preparing for the test for each region. When we move on to the next region, we will start with a pretest, and if a student gets 94% or higher on the pretest, then they will not be required to take the final test at the end of the region’s unit.

Technology: We are using a programming and coding unit called microbits. The students are problem solving how to put the correct combination of code for the device to do various things, such as counting steps, showing a beating heart, and revealing a message. We are excited to learn more about microbits this quarter!

Have a wonderful and restful Christmas break. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!

Memory Week of 1/6-1/10

Due Tuesday “See what kind of love the Father has given to us, that we should be called children of God; and so we are. The reason why the world does not know us is that it did not know Him. Beloved, we are God's children now, and what we will be has not yet appeared;...
