Serve-a-thon Our 5th graders will be driving to Beautiful Savior Lutheran Church in Olathe to help with beautification indoors and outdoors. You will see a permission slip in Thursday folders this week. Please return it promptly.
BizTown: This will be such a great experience for our 5th grade class to learn about Kansas City’s economy and their place as a citizen. We are preparing by learning about various things in our classroom, such as writing checks, earning and saving money, and more! Our field trip will be April 10th, 10:00am-1:00pm. Pizza will be provided for lunch, and we are encouraged to bring our water bottles. Permission slips are due April 10, but the earlier the better.
Math: We are testing our division skills with fractions, mixed numbers, and whole numbers. Please, feel free to have your child work on their math facts at home on 99math.com! They especially need to be focusing on their multiplication and division skills for the remainder of the year, as those are necessary in their future math lessons. We started using a new website (IXL) to enhance our lessons and practice!
Reading: Students are working on a cereal box representing the book each student read. They will decorate each side and present their book report project to the class this week.
Writing: This week we are starting on a writing project to use their imagination to write a fictional fantasy story about escaping a video game.
Social Studies: Each student will be researching two states and creating a presentation to give as a 4th and 5th grade combined audience. This presentation will be worked on in google classroom at school during our social studies time. Southwest States & Capitals Pre-Test is on Monday, April 14.
Below is the exact resource I will be using. The maps will be labeled with a number, and the students will write the State and Capital that matches the location on the map. It would be a great resource to print for studying and preparing for the test for each region. When we move on to the next region, we will start with a pretest, and if a student gets 94% or higher on the pretest, then they will not be required to take the final test at the end of the region’s unit. When a student takes the post test for the region, the higher of the two scores will remain in the gradebook.
Norway: We are continuing to learn our traditional Norwegian dance! We are having such a fun time learning all of the steps! We look forward to continuing our hard work in learning the dance, as we will be performing it at the international fair on May 1st.
Technology: Mrs. Stava will be working with the fifth graders to create some stop motion
