Newsletter Week of 03/28-04/02

April 23, 2025

Math: We are diving into adding decimals. Please, feel free to have your child work on their math facts at home on 99math.com! They especially need to be focusing on their multiplication and division skills for the remainder of the year, as those are necessary in their future math lessons. We started using a new website (IXL) to enhance our lessons and practice!

Reading: We started a new book, Island of the Blue Dolphins. We will be alternating between reading chapters and answering comprehension questions about the book. We will also be having quizzes about the book and a final project following the book.

Writing: This week we are starting on a writing project to share their opinions of what would make our school better. I am encouraging them to use their imagination, and my example was that we need a slide from the second floor to the first floor. They may also think of serious suggestions to improve the school.

Social Studies: Our final test for the school year will consist of fillings out all 50 states and capitals and locating them on the map. We will prepare a study guide together in class this week. The date for that test is to be determined. West States & Capitals Pre-Test is on Monday, April 28.

Below is the exact resource I will be using. The maps will be labeled with a number, and the students will write the State and Capital that matches the location on the map. It would be a great resource to print for studying and preparing for the test for each region. When we move on to the next region, we will start with a pretest, and if a student gets 94% or higher on the pretest, then they will not be required to take the final test at the end of the region’s unit. When a student takes the post test for the region, the higher of the two scores will remain in the gradebook.

Norway: We are continuing to learn our traditional Norwegian dance! We are having such a fun time learning all of the steps! We look forward to continuing our hard work in learning the dance, as we will be performing it at the international fair on May 1st. We have been working on many things to prepare for the international fair. This week we will finish up our Rosemaling tiles, designing our shirts, and making Viking boats. Please make sure your child is prepared for the dance with the following: girls should wear a white tank top underneath their rosemaling shirts, along with dark navy or black pants or skirt. Boys should wear a white tank top underneath their rosemaling shirts, along with dark navy or black pants or shorts.
