General Information
This week was the sixth week of band class and it was very successful! Thank you parents for getting your students here on time and thank you students for your enthusiasm in class. Parents, please continue to encourage your students to practice at home during the week! This time is vital for their growth as a musician and helps us learn more in class. If you have students wanting to take private lessons, please reach out so I can hopefully connect you with people in the area. I would love to do so.
Student Recordings: To submit a video or audio recording to me, students should ask to use a parent’s device such as a phone, iPad, computer etc. to record the asked for music. This can then be sent in an email to Miss Beumer.
Reminder: No band Monday Oct. 14th or Oct. 15th!!
Advanced Band
This week continued focus on Veterans Day music. This is highly encouraged to be practiced at home. I told them last week that they needed to show me this week they could play both. After listening to them this week, I believe they can so long as they stay dedicated in practicing at home. We will continue to work through both pieces for Veteran’s Day because I believe they can handle the challenge. Bb major and Eb major should be practiced this week. F major was briefly introduced in class, but is not part of the scale challenge yet. Students can submit a video by email of the full scale through the thirds to be added to the leaderboard. 3 hours overall for each week is a good goal with any of the music.
Beginning Band
This week focused on book exercises and learning to read music while playing their instruments. Students should continue to practice the notes and exercises from class at home. We have gone through pg. 6 in their red books and are actively working our way through page 7. We have played through no. 11 in class, but they can start to look ahead of that if they wish. They can also practice the notes they know on long tones (long sustained note). This will help build up their lung capacity and sound. Keep encouraging them to clean out their instruments after a practice session. This helps keep their instruments in the best working order.
