General Information
This week was the seventh week of band class and it went by quick! Despite only having one class with each band this week, we continued to make progress in our learning. Thank you parents for getting your students here on time and thank you students for your enthusiasm in class. Parents, please continue to encourage your students to practice at home during the week! This time is vital for their growth as a musician and helps us learn more in class. If you have students wanting to take private lessons, please reach out so I can hopefully connect you with people in the area. I would love to do so.
Student Recordings: To submit a video or audio recording to me, students should ask to use a parent’s device such as a phone, iPad, computer etc. to record the asked for music. This can then be sent in an email to Miss Beumer.
Announcement: Date scheduled for our Crown Center performance: December 17th at 5:45pm!! Please add to your calendar!!
Advanced Band
This week we continued to prepare for our Veterans Day performance. This is highly encouraged to be practiced at home. The two pieces every student needs to be practicing are Let Freedom Ring and The Armed Forces Salute. They have been doing a great job working hard in class to learn it, but spending extra time at home on each would be highly beneficial. Bb major and Eb major are also still open to submit recordings to get their name on the scale challenge board. F major was briefly introduced in class, but is not part of the scale challenge yet. Students can submit a video by email of the full scale through the thirds to be added to the leaderboard. 3 hours overall for each week is a good goal with any of the music.
Beginning Band
This week focused on book exercises and learning new rhythms and counting on notes we already know. Students should continue to practice the notes and exercises from class at home. We have gone through pg. 7 in their red books and are actively working our way through page 8. We have played through no. 15 in class, but they can start to look ahead of that if they wish. They can also practice the notes they know on long tones (long sustained note). This will help build up their lung capacity and sound. I also introduced a new note a bit early in class this week. For trumpets and clarinets it is D and flutes it is C. How to play these notes are described on pg. 8. Keep encouraging them to clean out their instruments after a practice session. This helps keep their instruments in the best working order.
