General Information

We made it everyone!! This week was our last week of band! I cannot believe how fast this year has gone. I am so incredibly proud of all the hard work your students have put into learning all the music I put in front of them this year. I am already looking forward to all the fun music we can play next year as we continue to build on all their new skills. To celebrate the success of this year, I will be hosting a small band party on Monday May, 19th at our normal band time in the music room. All band students are welcome to attend and food will be provided. Thank you all again for all of your support this year! I could not do what I do without all of you.

Private lessons: I have had a couple people ask what these are. Private lessons are an excellent way to help support your student’s growth on their instrument. They are an opportunity for them to learn from a licensed teacher of their specific instrument. These teachers are able to meet your student where they are skill wise and provide additional support and techniques to help them improve outside of band. Various music stores offer lessons, my college MidAmerica Nazarene University has a program, and there are various individuals across the metro that teach out of their homes as well. Please let me know if this interests you at all!

Announcement: Fine Art Night call time is 5:45pm in their classrooms. If students wish to leave their instruments in the music room instead of bringing them back home, that is totally fine.

Advanced Band

This week was all about finalizing our music for Fine Art Night. Rehearsal on Tuesday went pretty well. We had a couple bumps, but I would rather have those out of the way so now our Thursday evening performance can go smoothly. A band will be playing 3 pieces and they are Zig Zag, Down to the River, and Pirates of the Caribbean. Each piece has challenged the group in different ways and I am so proud of all the progress they have made this year. I am excited for you all to see and hear this progress tonight at our performance.

Beginning Band

This week we practiced getting full runs without stops of our performance music. B Band will be playing Chorale, Lullaby, and March Across the Seas. Chorale and Lullaby demonstrate some of their newest notes and the idea of slurring their notes together. These are two concepts we learned this semester. March gives the students a taste of longer pieces of music they will eventually play in A Band after 5th grade. I cannot wait for you all to see the progress they have made from the start of the year.
