General Information

Week 7 of band class has been a fantastic one. All of the students have been working very hard in class and are striving to improve more and more. I hope everyone enjoyed their week off last week. It was a great time to rest and recuperate before jumping back into the rest of the semester.

Announcement: Books for 4/5 grade band are here and went out to students this week. Please treat them like any other school textbook as I will need them back at the end of the year.

Advanced Band

This week we spent time working on American Declaration, Crazy Train, and Pirates of the Caribbean. The reason for such an interesting mix of music is I am working on getting A Band signed up to perform one night at the Glow Wild Festival at the Kansas City Zoo. I emailed Mrs. J about signing the group up for this and she was on board and the students seem excited for it as well. I still have not heard back for any date confirmation yet, but it will be an evening event similar to Crown Center during Christmas. The group will show up to the zoo around 6pm on the designated day and then we will be taken to the outside performance location where we will perform a handful of songs. Afterwards, the students are free to enjoy the lanterns and fall festival games for the rest of the evening with their families. This will be a new performance for this group, but I am excited for the opportunity,  For my new students in this group, reviewing exercises towards the middle or end of their red books will be good help to prepare them for the music in advanced band.

4/5 Grade Band

This week we continued on with learning our red book exercises. We have worked on no. 1-7 in class and the students are doing a great job learning their new techniques. Next week I have scheduled their first play check of the semester. They will play song no. 5 from their books for me in class. This will run similarly to their belt challenges from recorders last year. They will go one at a time and play the song and then I will provide feedback to them. Please encourage your students to look at the song at home and practice before class on Monday and Tuesday next week so they can come into class feeling confident. This will be for a grade. What I will be looking for is good playing technique and correct stick patterns or correct notes depending on what your student plays.

Some students still do not have an instrument for class. They are listed below. If you send me an email, I can send you a list of stores to look at or links to websites with affordable priced instruments to buy. Most music stores will have you rent to own. Please let me know any way I can help you with this!

5th grade- Owen (sticks or trumpet?) Nahom (needs sticks), Levi (sticks), Bennett (trumpet)
