General Information
Week 9 of band class is complete! This week we focused on making sure we are going to be prepared for all of our upcoming performances. Christmas music is on its way so be prepared to hear that at home soon. Please encourage your students to practice at home! We have lots of performances coming up in the second half of the semester so the more time they can spend practicing at home will help us progress faster in class.
Announcement: Date has been set officially on November 1st for A Band to perform at Glow Wild at the Kansas City Zoo! More information in your section below.
Advanced Band
This week we continued to work on preparing for Veterans Day and our upcoming performance at the zoo. The songs we will be playing are American Declaration, Pirates of the Caribbean and Crazy Train. I know I am super excited to bring the group to this and I hope you are too! Our Veterans Day music is the Armed Forces Salute and American Declaration. Both pieces have been rehearsed in full run throughs and are in a great place. We are focusing in on dynamics on American Declaration in order to perform it the absolute best we can. This piece is all about volume and style switches to make it fun and interesting. In the Armed Forces Salute, we are working on maintaining our starting tempo while in cut time. As we progress through the piece, it is easy to slow down. To prevent this, we are working on thinking light and bouncy while we play.
4/5 Grade Band
This week we continued to work further in our red books. We started on No. 5 as a warm up and continued on through No. 12. We have introduced the idea of half notes now so they are starting to move their fingers a bit faster. The best way to practice this at home is to have your student look at their instrument while they practice changing their fingers through their new finger patterns. They do not need to actively play to do this so they can watch and double check that their fingers are in the right spots. Our goal is to be able to play Good King Wenceslas for our Christmas performances so I will be moving a bit faster in class in order to make sure we can get there in time. Please continue to encourage your students to practice at home as this gives them the best chance to excel in class.
