General Information
Week 10 of band class is complete and Happy Halloween everyone! This week we focused on preparing for our performance this weekend in A Band and learning new notes in 4/5th grade band. Please encourage your students to practice at home! We have lots of performances coming up in the second half of the semester so the more time they can spend practicing at home will help us progress faster in class.
Announcement: This Saturday is our Glow Wild Performance! Call time is 6pm and performance time is 6:30pm.
Advanced Band
This week we continued to work on preparing for our Saturday performance, but we have also started to shift gears to Christmas music. On Monday I passed out two Christmas songs for us to work on. They are called A Joyous Christmas and The Chipmunk Song. The first piece is a beautiful combination of the songs Joy to the World and Ode to Joy. I am very excited to see how the students grow into this one as it is a beautiful lyrical piece. The Chipmunk song is going to be our fun piece for the school program and the end of the year. It is based on the song the chipmunks sing in the first movie and halfway through everyone gets to play the tune on a kazoo! This piece has added a new fun element to our classes. Please continue to encourage your students to practice all their music at home as this helps me better prepare them in class.
I will be sending out an email with further details on what door to drop your students off at and where to go to watch them play. Dress code is jeans, closed toe shoes, and a Hope top. It will be cold, so please be prepared for that!
4/5 Grade Band
This week we continued to work further in our red books. We started on No. 7 and 9 as a warm up. We have introduced the new rhythm ideas of half notes and quarter notes in our music. This means they are started to have to move their fingers faster to play all the notes, which adds a new challenge.
5th grade learned 2 new notes on Monday, which are C and Bb. Please have them review these notes at home!
4th grade started to work on learning half notes and quarter note rhythms and will learn the new notes next week in class. If they want to look ahead over the weekend at them, that is totally fine!
Our goal is to be able to play Good King Wenceslas for our Christmas performances so I will be moving a bit faster in class in order to make sure we can get there in time. Please continue to encourage your students to practice at home as this gives them the best chance to excel in class.
