General Information
Week 13 of band class is complete! I cannot believe how fast this semester is going. I hope everyone has a wonderful Thanksgiving break next week! I know I am looking forward to extra sleep. Once we come back from break, there is lots to look forward to performance wise so be prepared! Please encourage your students to practice at home! We have our main performance for 4/5th grade the Sunday after break as well as A band playing that weekend for the basketball tournament.
Announcement: Please practice over the break! Lots of performances happening the week we come back!
Advanced Band
Great work this week everyone! We have lots of performances coming up with lots of different music and you are doing an excellent job balancing it all. Starting the Tuesday we come back from break, we will be playing for the Candy Cane Cafe from 8:00-8:20. If your student normally eats breakfast at school, please remind them that they will have less time to do so because of this. This will be happening every Tuesday morning until we go on Christmas break. We will be playing out of our Christmas packets for this.
For the basketball tournament, we will be playing the national anthem for the first game on Friday night and Saturday morning. I believe the times for that are 5pm and 8am. I will send email updates if this is inaccurate. For the church service that Sunday, we will be playing Joyous Christmas as a prelude song before the 8am service. I would like to have all students at the church by 7:40 at the latest so we can get instruments put together and warmed up on time. We should start playing around 7:55.
For the Christmas program, we will be playing both Joyous Christmas and the Chipmunk Song. More info will go out once this gets closer.
4/5 Grade Band
This week was all about reinforcing the basics. We revisited rhythms and counting to make sure we are confident going into the last part of the semester. Reviewing No. 18 and 19 in the red books is a great place to start for at home practice over break.
5th grade had a play check on Monday and everyone did a great job. They played No. 17 for me and I listened for improvements in sound, counting, and technique.
4th grade working on making sure we remember the difference between half notes and quarter notes while playing. They do an excellent job when counting and clapping rhythms, we just need to continue to work on getting our tongue and fingers faster while we are playing quarter notes on our instruments.
Our goal is to be able to play Good King Wenceslas for our Christmas performance and both groups have made great progress in learning it. Now it will all be about confidence and deciding solo and tutti parts in the piece. Please continue to encourage your students to practice at home as this gives them the best chance to excel in class.
