General Information
Week 8 of class is now complete! This semester is flying and I cannot believe that we are almost done with the 3rd quarter. This week more music went out to A Band and 4th and 5th grade wrapped up their Olympics unit. We will be moving into a Music March Madness bracket next week so I looking forward to that! Students in both groups will get to vote between various Disney songs and the favorite will be chosen towards the end of the month.

Advanced Band
This week we continued to work on our growing repertoire of music. Lion King came in this week so that went out on Wednesday and we worked on it on Thursday. This piece has lots of fun rhythm challenges and encourages the students to work on their independence as we work to cover all 5 parts of the score. The song is a fun medley of various songs from the movie and we are having fun singing them along with playing them in class. Sound of Music is also coming along really well. We worked on our transitions between each of the songs in the medley to make sure they were smooth and quick. Down to the River has been a good change from the rest of our music as it is slower and more lyrical in style. Since we played it last year, this year we are working on perfecting the style of the piece in the small spots that slow down and speed up that might not be written down in their parts.
4/5 Grade Band
Please make sure your students have their instruments and books for class!! Everything we are doing in class this semester requires them to have an instrument everyday of class.
Band Olympics: This week we wrapped up our Olympics unit with speed races on Monday and Tuesday and creating our own team songs to play at our closing ceremony on Thursday. Each group wrote a short 6 measure song and played it in class.
5th Grade: This week we competed in a speed race to see who could play Hot Cross Buns the fastest in preassigned pairs like in speed skating. We also worked on becoming more comfortable playing Itsy Bitsy as a round.
4th Grade: This week we competed in a speed race to see who could play Hot Cross Buns the fastest in preassigned pairs like in speed skating. We also worked on becoming more comfortable playing Itsy Bitsy as a round.
