General Information
Week 10 of class is now complete and we are now entering into Spring Break! This week started off with A Band performing for the Sunday School hour. Thank you to everyone who showed up for that! We are wrapping up our week with our Grandparents Day performance. Please make sure your student brings their instrument and music to school on Friday!! If your student cannot make this performance, please send me an email in advance. I cannot be prouder of all the progress these students have made this semester. I have given them plenty of challenges so far and they have risen above and beyond all expectations with learning their music. I cannot wait to see how much they continue to grow after Spring Break.
Announcement: All parents: Please make sure your student has their instruments at school on Thursday for dress rehearsal and Friday for the performance.
Advanced Band
This week we started with our Sunday performance. Thank you again to everyone who made it to that! All Glory Laud and Honor sounded great! We did have to play it twice due to a miscommunication on the start time, but the group remained flexible and focused throughout.
Our next performance was during chapel on Monday. I lead devotionals that morning and the band was asked to play at the end. They did an excellent job performing Sound of Music and it served as a great practice run for Friday.
The rest of the week we focused more on Epic Venture and Down to the River. Our in school “competition” is coming up fairly quickly after break and I want to make sure we go into the break with good momentum on these pieces. Please encourage your students to look through these at least once over break!
A date has been confirmed with my college professors for when they can come in to act as competition judges for us in April! On April 8th at 7:30 they will come in and listen to our group perform and then workshop with them afterwards. Please make sure your student is on time for this day!!
4/5 Grade Band
Please make sure your students have their instruments and books for class!! Everything we are doing in class this semester requires them to have an instrument everyday of class.
This week we had shorter class times due to the extra chapel services, but each group did a fantastic job coming into my room ready to work. We accomplished everything I wanted to each class and more. As we go into Spring break, please encourage your students to practice a little bit each day so they do not lose touch with all the new skills they have been working on this semester. We will be playing during the all school rehearsal Thursday afternoon so we can practice for Friday.
5th Grade: This week we used the various 8th note focused exercises as a warm up. These exercises come from pages 14 and 15 in their red books. They expose them to playing 8th notes on various different beats to get used to the new rhythm. Then we moved on to reviewing Itsy Bitsy Spider. We established our group 1 and 2 for our round and we will perform this piece two times through on Friday.
4th Grade: This week we used the various 8th note focused exercises as a warm up. These exercises come from pages 14 and 15 in their red books.
