General Information
Week 8 of band class was a busy one, but a successful one! Each group has improved a tremendous amount this first quarter and I cannot believe we are at the end of the quarter already. I hope your students have been having as much fun in band as I have had teaching them. I cannot wait for the rest of the semester to see how much more they’ll grow.
Announcement: Date has been set officially on November 1st for A Band to perform at Glow Wild at the Kansas City Zoo! More information in your section below.
Advanced Band
This week I signed the group up for a new performance opportunity. We will be playing for Glow Wild at the Kansas City Zoo on November 1st at 6:30 pm. The zoo asks that we all arrive 30 minutes prior to our performance time so we have time to put our cases in a room set aside for us and warm up before we walk to the performance area. We will be performing in front of the penguin exhibit. All performers get in for free and anyone wanting to watch will get a discounted ticket of $18. The easiest way to get this ticket price is by going to the front desk when you arrive, saying the group you are with, and paying for it then. I am not sure how the discount would work if you buy tickets online ahead of time. I will send out emails on directions for which door to drop your students off at. You are welcome to park in any parking lot you want to after that. The songs we will be playing are American Declaration, Pirates of the Caribbean and Crazy Train. I know I am super excited to bring the group to this and I hope you are too!
4/5 Grade Band
This week we had our first play check in class. Each student played no. 5 from their red books for me and I gave them feedback afterward. The scores will be posted in the gradebook and I will be giving their teachers a folder with all their written assignments from the quarter to take home with them today. This way you can see what they have been working on in class. Everyone did very well with the play checks. Playing in front of your peers can be the most nerve wracking thing to do and everyone stepped up to the plate. The rest of the semester will be focused on learning more new notes and preparing for our Christmas time performances. Please continue to encourage your students to practice at home as this gives them the best chance to excel in class. By practicing at home, they cement their new notes and techniques to muscle memory and it allows us to progress through the book faster in class.
