General Information
Week 12 of band class is complete! Congratulations to A Band for a fantastic performance at the Veteran’s Day breakfast! Thank you for your service to all of our veterans. We are now switching gears fully into preparation for all of our Christmas performances. Please encourage your students to practice at home! We have lots of performances coming up in the second half of the semester so the more time they can spend practicing at home will help us progress faster in class.
Announcement: There is no longer going to be a performance at Crown Center this year. We will just be focusing on playing for the basketball tournament and church that weekend.
Advanced Band
Great job on Tuesday everyone! American Declaration went really well and the group adjusted very well to the balance of the group due to a couple absent members. Also, fantastic job regrouping after the quick restart we did for Armed Forces! It is not easy to quickly reset after a mistake, but everyone did an excellent job shaking it off and playing the piece well afterward. I know it made many people happy to hear their songs played. We are also continuing our work on our Christmas music. Kazoos went out this week, which I am sure everyone has heard about. We are now working on the quick changes from instrument to kazoo and back again in the Chipmunk Song. Joyous Christmas melodies are coming along really well so now we are working on group balance overall and gradually speeding the piece up. I am also making copies of our Christmas music packet from last year to pass out to the group for the caroling we will be doing on Tuesday mornings for the candy cane event in December.
With the upcoming basketball tournament, I also will be handing out the Star Spangled Banner soon so we can start working on that.
4/5 Grade Band
This week we continued to work further in our red books. We started on No. 15 as a warm up. I then have been hopping around a few exercises in the book to continue their practice. No. 17, 19, and 20 are all ones we are working on in class.
5th grade reviewed their two new notes from last week and continued to work ahead in their red books. They should be looking at No. 17 for a play check next week.
4th grade did not get to meet this week on Tuesday due to the Veteran’s Day breakfast so I encourage them to look over No. 17, 19, and 20 at home. No. 17 will be a play check eventually, and the other two contain the new notes they learned last week during sectionals with 5th grade.
Our goal is to be able to play Good King Wenceslas for our Christmas performance and both groups have made great progress in learning it. Now it will all be about confidence and deciding solo and tutti parts in the piece. Please continue to encourage your students to practice at home as this gives them the best chance to excel in class.
