General Information

Week 7 of class is now complete! I cannot believe how fast this semester is flying by. This week was slightly short due to not having school on Monday. I hope everyone was able to enjoy their long weekend! The main focus this week continued to be preparing for Grandparents Day on March 13th. A Band also has a performance coming up on March 8th during the Sunday school hour at Hope Lutheran Church. 4th and 5th grade had been originally signed up for this as well, but it has been decided that they will just focus on preparing for Grandparents Day instead.

Advanced Band

This week we continued to work on the music for all of our upcoming performances. Africa has taken a bit of a backseat since it is more for pep rallies than performances. Down to the River is sounding beautiful so now we are working on really perfecting the style of the piece. Epic Venture has become more confident across all the parts so this week we focused on learning who we need to listen for where. This helps them learn when to back off their sound and when to bring their melody forward. Sound of Music is also coming along really well despite the fact we have only had it for a short while. Some sections are quite quick so we are working on building those up to speed. The best way to do this is for them to practice it slow at home to make sure all the notes are correct first before gradually increasing the speed.

I still do not have a date set with my professors, but I am trying to schedule it during the week of April 6th-10th since that was the original time line we had in mind. If none of those dates work though, we will plan for something after the 8th graders come back from DC.

4/5 Grade Band

Please make sure your students have their instruments and books for class!! Everything we are doing in class this semester requires them to have an instrument everyday of class.

Band Olympics: Due to the short week we only did an activity on Thursday. The activity we did was a long tone game of who can sustain a sound for the longest.

5th Grade: This week we did not meet due to the holiday on our normal Monday class. On Thursday we continued to work on Itsy Bitsy Spider. Percussion is also working on learning how to play the bells.

4th Grade: This week we warmed up on page 8 in the red books before switching over to Itsy Bitsy Spider. Percussion is working on learning bells as well for this piece. On Thursday we worked on it as a whole group.
