General Information
Week 13 of class is now complete! With KAP testing this week, 4th and 5th grade did not get to meet like normal this week. A Band did get to meet like normal and we did final preparations on our band competition music. Our morning with the college professors went exceptionally well! More information will be in the A band section. Also, the winner of our Disney March Madness was We Don’t Talk About Bruno from Encanto! I did not get the chance for formally announce that in class this week. I also hope the 8th graders have a wonderful time in DC next week!

Advanced Band
This week we had our competition and workshop session with two college professors. Wednesday morning went so well! The students were engaged and ready to learn right when they came in the room. We warmed up and then played through Down to the River and Epic Venture for the two judges. Then Dr. Luke Johnson and Dr. Gina Hart-Kemper each had about 15 minutes to work with the group and give them tips to improve even more. The group really started to sound like a larger mature group at the end of class and I was so excited to see it! Some tips Dr. J gave were: do not breathe at the climax of a crescendo, but continue your momentum forward and to always play with confidence even if we do not necessarily feel confident. A confident sound works wonders on any group. Dr. Gina’s advice was: listen to each other and focus in on your counting. The group stays together better when everyone makes it a priority to be super rhythmic. She also touched on stylistic playing in Down to the River and gave the analogy of playing like it is a prayer.
4/5 Grade Band
Please make sure your students are practicing at home at least 15 minutes a day!! Due to testing we are falling behind in rehearsal time before our final performances.
This week I only saw both classes on Thursday for our combined class period. We did sectional time on From Now On, ran it as a class, and then worked on Promenade.
5th Grade: This week did not get to meet due to being off for Easter Monday. Please encourage your students to look at the exercises in their red books!
4th Grade: We did not get to meet this week individually. Please encourage your student to look at the Promenade song in their Red Books.
