General Information
Week 15 of class is now complete! I apologize that I did not get an update sent out last week! I had not finished it before getting sick so it never made it past the draft phase. This week we have been in full prep mode for all our upcoming performances. 4th and 5th grade have one coming up on Sunday May 3rd! Parents, please carefully read through your section for information on that. The other performance is on April 30th for A band. They are playing the national anthem for Celebrate America night.
Announcement: 4th and 5th grade, please read about your next performance!!!
Advanced Band
This week we are working through all four of our Fine Art night pieces. We will be playing The Lion King, Epic Venture, and The Sound of Music individually. Then, either before or after we will play From Now On with the 4th and 5th grade band. This will be a fun opportunity for both groups to experience playing in a larger ensemble. This week, we mostly reviewed spots in Sound of Music. It is still in great shape from March so I am not worried about this piece. Epic Venture was not worked on a ton, but we are still included all the new feedback we got from my professors two weeks ago. In Lion King, we are working on counting confidence and transitions. This piece features multiple tempo and key signature changes that provide a fun challenge for the students to keep track of.
4/5 Grade Band
We are performing the prelude for the May 3rd 10:30 service. This is a graded performance so please let me know if your student absolutely cannot make it.
This week I would love for the students to get at least 30 minutes of at home practice done. They should be looking at Make a Joyful Sound on pg. 42 in their Red books. This is our piece for our church performance. If they are not sure on note names, they can double check them in the front of their books along with the finger patterns. Writing them in is a great way to prepare for class.
5th Grade: This week we went over Make a Joyful Sound. They can play it all the way through, we just need to work more on rhythmic confidence. This can be accomplished by extra practice at home on the specific notes so I can then help with the counting in class.
4th Grade: We did not get to meet this week individually. Please encourage your student to practice at home!!!
