General Information

Week 17 of class is now complete! We are now fully focused on preparing for Fine Art Night next week. During our all school rehearsals, both groups will be playing because it is our only chance to rehearse From Now On with the full group. This will be a fun opportunity for everyone to experience playing in a large ensemble. As we look to the end of the year, more information will go out about returning school instruments for the summer and making sure we are prepared to start again in the fall.

Announcement: Both groups will be playing at every all school rehearsal for Fine Art Night so please make sure their instrument comes to school every day next week!!

Advanced Band

Great job last Thursday night performing for Celebrate America night!! The group received lots of compliments on how they sounded!!

This week we worked on our Fine Art Night music, but also had a bit of fun along the way. This group has improved in leaps and bounds all semester and I am feeling very confident in all our music going into our performance next week. This confidence allows me the chance to give the group new music to sight read through for fun. For example, they played a Star Wars medley on Monday for Star Wars day and Amparito Roca, a Spanish march, on Tuesday in honor of Cinco de Mayo. We are not performing these pieces, but they provide unique challenges to sight read through and expose them to more music.

For Fine Art Night, our ensemble will be quite large when we combine with 4th and 5th grade. This means that lots of people will be sharing music stands. If your student has a stand at home, they have the option to bring it in next week. This is totally optional and not required, I just wanted to bring it up in case a student is not comfortable standing tightly packed together around a music stand.

4/5 Grade Band

This week we worked on keeping a steady tempo in our two pieces for Fine Art Night. Now that we are more confident in the notes, we are polishing it by making sure we stay together as a whole. I use a metronome in class to help them hear the steady beat. This is just from a free online website called metronomeonline.com and is a great resource to use when practicing at home.

5th Grade: This week continued to practice our big entrance in From Now On and playing all the way through Make a Joyful Sound. I workshopped a bit with percussion on tempos and rhythms as well while the wind players did some note name review.

4th Grade: This week we worked on Make a Joyful Sound. We are still working on playing out confidently so most of class is spent doing repetitions of this piece. I also workshopped with percussion on steady beat and tempo while the wind players worked on reviewing note names.
