Season of Advent

Advent is a time of preparation signified by blue, the color of hope. White, the color of light and purity, signifies Christmas as a feast of Christ, who is the Light of the world (Jn 8:12; 9:5) and our purification for sin (Heb 1:3).
Each Advent is the beginning of a new church year. It does share some common themes with the end of the church year, which focuses on the End Times. Both remind us of Jesus’ second coming, or second advent. His first advent in the flesh was His incarnation, His conception and birth, His coming in humility as a powerless babe, to suffer and die, wearing a thorny crown. His second advent will be in power and glory, to judge the living and the dead, wearing a golden crown. The Last Day shall be the end, the passing away, of the old, fallen creation and the full beginning of the new creation, the new heavens and new earth. That new creation God has already begun in and for you, through the redemptive work of Christ, and applied to you by the Holy Spirit in Holy Baptism.
