October is such a full and exciting month! We will have a 3-day school week next week due to the Teachers’ Conference on October 13 – 15. We will begin a Food Drive Challenge between the grades starting on Friday, October 11th and ending on Friday, October 18th. Please send canned fruits and veggies, rice, pasta, peanut butter, etc. For every 3 items your child brings in, the students will add a Starry to the classroom game board! Starry levels represent great group behavior. Each time the class “levels up,” they open a group prize!
Book-It began on Oct. 1st! Please use the calendar that was sent home to help your child record minutes of reading outside of school. Be sure you and your child sign the completed calendar. Then return the completed calendar by the end of the month. Your child will receive a coupon for a Personal Pan Pizza from Pizza Hut for meeting the 600-minute monthly goal! Next Friday, October 18th is a half day so that grade cards can be completed for the 1st Quarter! All corrections and late work must be turned in no later than Wednesday, October 16th. The 4th Grade is busy preparing the all-school chapel presentation for Wednesday, October 23rd. We will be teaching about Martin Luther and the Reformation. Please consider attending! Don’t forget that Trunk-or-Treat will be held in the school parking lot on Friday, October 25th. Come visit the teachers’ Super Trunk! Grades 3 – 5 will be singing on Sunday, October 27th – so please mark your calendars! On Thursday, October 30th, 3rd & 4th grade will be traveling to Science City for a fun day of learning! We will celebrate the Reformation on October 31st and commemorate Martin Luther’s nailing of the 95 Theses to the door of the castle church in Wittenberg, Germany in 1517. This day marks a return to Biblical truth and the Protestant break from the Roman Catholic Church. Wow! Be sure to work a few naps into your busy month! +God’s peace, Mrs. Janet Begley
