Newsletter For October 21st – 25th

October 16, 2024

The teachers had great time of learning and fellowship at our Teachers’ Conference this past few days. We hope your families enjoyed the extra few days of beautiful fall weather!

We have begun a Food Drive Challenge between the grades, which started on Friday, October 11th and will end on Friday, October 18th. Please send canned fruits and veggies, rice, pasta, peanut butter, etc. For every 3 items your child brings in, the students will add a Starry to the classroom game board! Starry levels represent great group behavior. Each time the class “levels up,” they open a group prize!

Reading- This week we will begin reading The Sign of the Beaver by Eliabeth George Speare. We hope to cover chapters 1 – 12 this week. We will take a quiz over chapters 1-6. There will also be a quiz over chapters 7 – 12. We will take a Comprehension/Vocabulary Test over chapters 1 – 12. Look for an update on our progress in the next newsletter.

Book-It began on Oct. 1st! Please use the calendar that was sent home to help your child record minutes of reading outside of school. Be sure you and your child sign the completed calendar. Then return the completed calendar by the end of the month. I will need the October calendars by Friday, November 1st to add your child’s name to the printed coupons! Your child will receive a coupon for a Personal Pan Pizza from Pizza Hut for meeting the 600-minute monthly goal!

The 4th Grade is busy preparing the all-school chapel presentation for Wednesday, October 23rd. Please consider attending! We will be teaching about Martin Luther and the Reformation. We will celebrate the Reformation on October 31st and commemorate Martin Luther’s nailing of the 95 Theses to the door of the castle church in Wittenberg, Germany in 1517. This day marks a return to Biblical truth and the Protestant break from the Roman Catholic Church.

Don’t forget that Trunk-or-Treat will be held in the school parking lot on Friday, October 25th. Come visit the teachers’ Super Trunk!

Grades 3 – 5 will be singing on Sunday, October 27th so please mark your calendars!

On Thursday, October 30th, 3rd & 4th grade will be traveling to Science City for a fun day of learning!

Parents, please ask your child if they are needing any school supplies such as pencils, erasers, highlighter, or mechanical pencil lead.

Thank you for all you do!

+God’s peace, Mrs. Janet Begley
