Your children have shared a lot of JOY in this new school year! We are so excited to be with our “old” friends again, and we are so excited to have “new” friends join our Hope family! We have been getting more acquainted, are learning lots of important procedures, and have been meeting with each of our specials teachers. We especially enjoyed learning our lock combinations and putting them on our PE lockers! We also have been fascinated by the monarch caterpillars that are hatching from eggs, growing so fast, and are taking turns transforming into chrysalides at the top of the enclosure! We enjoyed finding out more about the butterflies migration to Mexico from Mrs. Stava. We were pleased to have Mr. Hockman, a local beekeeper, come in to explain how he works with the bees, collects the honey, and helps to ensure the hive is healthy. He volunteers his time to work with our students and to support our pollinators project here at Hope. This summer Mr. Hockman collected more than 65 lbs. of honey for us! We will be observing him this upcoming week and will tell you more!
Back to School Night
The 3rd & 4th grades will have our Back to School Night on Monday, August 25th beginning at 5:30 PM in the music room on the second floor. Please make plans to attend to learn important information about music, athletic, and other programs, our school procedures, and classroom routines and expectations! Thank you! See you then!
Special Reading/Writing Project
The 4th graders will each be assigned an autobiography poster called “Extra, Extra, Read All About Me.” The poster will serve as a book report/project and is due on Friday, September 12th. We will go over the assignment briefly at our Back to School Night, which is this coming Monday, August 25th beginning at 5:30 PM in the music room. The students will be bringing the assignment home that same day. Please come to learn more about our choir/band programs, athletics, PTL , school policies, and our classroom. This is also a great time to ask questions and receive the answers! See you then!
Spelling Begins-
We have already been writing and studying our first Spelling List this past week! We will have a Pretest on Monday. We will do Corrections after the Pretest, attach them to our Pretest, and turn them in to the teacher on Tuesday. We always correct our words 3 times. We will have a Spelling Dictation Test of Wednesday to show that we can listen and use the words in a sentence. The sentences do not come home in advance of the test. We will also take a Handwriting grade on our Dictation Test penmanship. On Friday we will have a Retake Test for any child who scored below 88% on the Wednesday Test. I will record the highest test score in the gradebook for the week’s list words.
MAP Testing
Please be sure your child comes to school with a good breakfast and a good night’s sleep to be ready for school everday, but especially on test days.
4th grade will be taking our fall MAP tests on the following days.
Thursday, August 28th
Friday, August 29th
Wednesday, September 3rd
Friday, September 4th
PE
Please keep in mind that our PE dress-out days are Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday of each week. We will encourage your child to bring PE clothes home on Thursday nights to be sure they are clean and fresh for the new week.
BAND
We will have 4th grade band every Tuesday and Thursday morning. Please look for important information coming from our band director, Miss Rachel Beumer. A flier went home pertaining to Instrument Rental NIght, which is Tuesday, August 26th.
How Best to Keep Informed-
Each Thursday morning you will be receiving an email called “4-6 SCOOP,” which contains links to each of the 4th – 6th grade classroom website, which will contain the class newsletter, Memory, and Spelling. This email will come from either Mrs. Begley, Mrs. McIntosh, or Mrs. Schkade. We will take turns writing and sending out the “SCOOP.” Please be sure to click on the links that pertain to our class to see news about upcoming calendar events, assignments, class trips, and more!
