I pray you had a wonderful Fall Break! The teachers had a busy week of fellowship and learning with our colleagues in the Kansas District of the LCMS, which was hosted by Hope. We finished our week reuniting and gaining new insights with our colleagues throughout the country at the LEA Convocation in St. Louis. We praise God for keeping the students and teachers safe and for blessing us all with this special time of growth and regeneration! The end of the 1st Quarter is already next week! We will have an Early Dismissal on Friday, October 17th in order to finalize the Report Cards. Any Corrections that are sent home in the Communication Folder this Thursday are due on Monday, October 13th. Thank you for helping your child to study and meet deadlines. The 4th grade enjoyed presenting our skit, “The Parable of the Traveler” during Wednesday’s Chapel. We appreciate that some of you were able to attend!
Reading
We have begun reading the novel Because of Winn-Dixie and will be ready for a Vocabulary/Comprehension Test over Chapters 1- 13 on Friday, October 10th. Please go over the Vocabulary Words with your child and read through the novel workbook questions and answers to prepare. The workbook for Part 1 will be turned in on Friday, October 10th for grading. We plan to read the rest of the novel next week and complete the workbook for Part 2. We should be ready for a Vocabulary/Comprehension Test again on Friday, October 17th. We are also doing character studies with partners in class. We plan to finish those up in school the following week. Please check your child’s binder each night to see that he/she is keeping up with answering the questions that follow each chapter of reading. If your child needs to bring the book home, please be sure the book is kept in the gallon bag marked with “Property of Hope.” We will want the book to be returned in the bag to prevent damage. Book-It
Your child’s October Book-It Calendar is being stored in your child’s binder. Please help keep track of the minutes of reading your child does each day of the month. Record the minutes on the calendar, and return it to the teacher with your signature and your child’s signature by Friday, November 8th. We will send a new calendar for each month of the program, which is October – March. Your child will need to complete 600 minutes of reading outside of school hours to receive the Pizza Hut Personal Pan Pizza. Please support your child in taking on this project and completing it. Veteran’s Day
Our school would like to honor the Veteran’s here in our Hope family. We will have a special program for them on Tuesday, November 11th, which includes breakfast and music performances from our children’s choirs and the band. Please inform the office of the names and addresses of your Vets so that we may include them in our special day! Thank you!
