Happy Kansas Day! Ad Astera per Aspera! We will enjoy the Topeka Field Trip today – Thursday, January 29th! Today Kansas is 165 years old! Kansas became the 34th state on January 29, 1861. We will be touring the Capitol and visiting the Brown vs. Board of Education National Historic Park. We will have lots to talk about after this exciting trip! We have finished memorizing the books of the Bible, are beginning to take multiplicaiton facts tests, and will begin memorizing the states and capitals next! This coming week we will celebrate 100th Day of School! We will also determine our classroom geography bee winner who will compete in our school Geography Bee on Friday, February 27th.
100th Day of School
This Thursday, February 5th will be our 100th day of school! We will be doing some fun math activities and celebrate being 100 days smarter! Please send 10 small items (edible or not) to be shared with the class. Our ten students will bring in 100 items total! Let’s be creative and have some fun! We all look forward to doing our 100 exercises with the whole school that morining! (or not!)
Valentine’s Day
We look forward to our Valentine’s Day party, which will be held on Friday, February 13th at 2:00 PM. Please be sure to send a Valentine for each student in the class. A student list will be sent in your child’s Thursday Folder. Please do not send Valentine boxes as we will be creating our own mail pouches here at school. Thank you!
Open House
We will have Open House on Thursday, February 19th from 5:30 – 6:30 PM Please bring your child to see their next year’s classroom and take a peek at what your child will be learning in the coming year!
Memorizing Multiplication Tables
This upcoming week we will be taking our tables of 3 and 4 one-minute tests. Each test contains 12 questions covering one table of multiplication. We will test on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays to cover about two tables per week. Students will retake each timed test until achieving 100% and passing on to the next table. We will usually use Fridays to increase speed and accuracy for anyone needing to retake a table. Students will be working at their own pace and not in competition with classmates. The deadline for completing and mastering the tables will be March 6th. Look for more information to be coming in your child’s binder.
Lenten Service – Student Help wanted
4th grade has been asked to help the 3rd grade with handing out service folders and ushering for the 4:00 Wednesday Lenten Services beginning on February 25th. This is an opportunity for the students to be involved in a way that they enjoy and can be of service to the congregation that supports our school in so many ways. Student helpers can stay with me after school and Mrs. Krzesinski and I will accompany them to the sanctuary and stay with them until after the service. Please use the link below to indicate which service(s) your child could be available to serve. It is not expected that your child serves every week, but please indicate any/all weeks that it would be possible. (Only 4 are needed each week, but there is room for 2 extra in each slot for signing up.) Thank you in advance for your willingness to serve!
