Newsletter – August 24th

August 23, 2023

Dear Parents,

We are halfway through our first full week at school! I am impressed with how your children have grown with their independence and responsibility this week. They are adjusting well to their new environment.

August 25th is the last day I will be meeting the students outside for drop off and pick up. We return to our usual method on August 28th.

First grade is a nut-free classroom. Please do not send your child with nuts or nut products to school for lunch or snack. Thank you for helping us keep our classroom safe!

I will be sending behavior binders home with your student next week. Please check the binders for reading assignments and comments on how your child behaved at school that day.

Our categories for behavior are:

  • Green = good choices
  • Yellow = made a bad choice/needed repeated reminders for an inappropriate behavior
  • Red = repeated bad choices/refusal to follow class rules

Schedule:

August 24 – Back to School Night 6:30 pm – Church Sanctuary

August 26 – 5th and 6th Preseason Volleyball Tournament at Hope

September 4 – All Pro Dad’s 7:30 am

September 4 – Labor Day – No School

September 9 – 40th Anniversary Bash and Pie Auction

September 11 – PTL Meeting 7 pm

September 21 – Mid-Term Parent Teacher Conferences – Early Dismissal K-8

September 22 – Parent Teacher Conferences – No School

Reminders

Please send your child’s P.E. shoes to school. We have bins in the classroom where they are stored. This makes it easier for students to switch shoes and not forget them. Hope requires separate P.E. shoes so rocks and gravel do not scuff the floor of our gym floor.

Your child also needs corded headphones in order to work with their online Chromebook lessons. Please note that earbuds and Bluetooth headsets are not acceptable substitutes. It is recommended to send your child with a mouse to connect to their Chromebook as well.

Back to School Night is August 24th at 6:30 pm. We will meet in the church sanctuary and then move to the first grade classroom. There will be an opportunity to ask questions after the classroom presentation. Childcare is available during Back to School Night for first grade students. Childcare is available for younger children as long as they are potty trained. We do not have childcare available for babies.

Come join us as we celebrate Hope Lutheran’s fortieth anniversary on September 9th. We will have a carnival-themed bash with a pie auction and fun for the whole family.

We will have MAPS testing the week of September 11th-15th. I will provide more information as we get closer to this event.
