Dear Parents,
Week at a Glance
Our handwriting lesson will focus on ending punctuation. In language we will learn how to add suffixes to root words with long vowels. In religion we will be learning about Jesus’ genealogy. Our math lessons this week will be a review of measuring length. In music we will learn the hymn for National Lutheran Schools Week. Our reading lessons will address informational text and identifying main ideas and supporting details. In science we will learn about animal habitats. Our social studies lessons will cover political maps.

Parent-Teacher Conferences

Parent-Teacher Conferences will take place on January 18th and 19th. The conferences on January 18th will begin after the half-day dismissal. Conferences on January 19th will be available in both the morning and afternoon. No School

Please note that there will be no school on January 15th in observance of Martin Luther King Jr. Day. Hope will have a half day of school on January 18th and no school on January 19th due to parent-teacher conferences.

Cold Weather

Please make sure your child is appropriately dressed for the day. Students need to bring a heavy jacket for cold weather. Students may also bring a sweater or Hope sweatshirt to wear in the classroom if they get cold.

Water Bottles/Snack

Please send your child to school with a water bottle. Hydration helps support student learning. Students need a water bottle in order to refill it throughout the day. Your child also needs to bring a snack for the afternoon. All snacks and lunches must not contain nut allergens. Students should not bring candy as a snack.


Music Performance

The 1st/2nd Grade choirs will sing at Hope’s 8 am service on January 21st. This performance counts toward your child’s choir grade. Please email me if your child is unable to attend.

National Lutheran Schools Week

National Lutheran Schools Week will take place January 21st-26th. More information will follow soon.

Permission Slip

Permission slips were sent home today in Thursday folders. Please check your student’s Thursday folder and return the permission slip no later than January 12th.


Spelling Bee

Hope’s Spelling Bee will take place on January 17th.
