Dear Parents,

Week at a Glance

This week’s handwriting lesson is on writing letters “A” “a”. In science we are learning about the life cycle of animals. Our social studies lessons are about economics. In math we are practicing place value with numbers to 100. In reading we are identifying main ideas and details in informative text. Our language lessons are focused on correcting sentences and putting words in alphabetical order. This week in religion the class is learning about Jesus’ baptism and early ministry. For memory we are learning the second article of the Apostles’ Creed which tells us about Jesus’ redeeming work for us. In spelling we are learning words with the long “o” vowel and silent “e” at the end of the word. In choir we are learning our chapel hymn of the month “I am Jesus’ Little Lamb”.

Science Fair Project

Thank you for turning in the Science Fair experiment topics! Papers for students to write their experiment purpose statement will go home tomorrow in Thursday folders. Please keep track of these papers. The purpose statement is due back to school by February 14th. As a reminder the actual experiment is performed at home.

Valentine’s Day

Please be aware that if the Chiefs win the Super Bowl Hope will not have school on February 14th. This is due to the parade scheduled for that day. All related events such as chapel and Valentine’s Day parties would move to Thursday, February 15th.

Valentine’s Day Boxes

Your child may decorate a box from home to bring to school for Valentine’s Day. This box will hold any cards or treats from the day. If your child chooses to decorate a box please make sure it is school-appropriate. Shoe boxes would be an appropriate size for this project. This is not required but is a fun way for students to celebrate.

Mite Boxes

Don’t forget to be putting your coins in your Mite Boxes! We are encouraging all children at Hope Lutheran School to fill their Mite Box and bring it back on February 28th for chapel.

The best way to fill the mite box is to put your loose change from the car or have the children put in a penny a day.  Thank you for supporting the LWML

Open House

Open House nights will be held February 7th and 13th from 6-8 pm. On February 13th please come to school during Open House to meet next year’s teacher! Your student will have an opportunity to see their classroom and teacher for the upcoming school year. See the attached poster below for more information.

Ash Wednesday Chapel

As part of this service on Wednesday, February 14th, the children may participate in the imposition of ashes.  If you do not want your child to participate, please let his/her teacher know.  The children do not have to participate if they do not wish to.  If you have any questions, please get in touch with the school office. Chapel service will be held in the sanctuary. Parents are welcome to attend.

Please note that if there is no school on February 14th due to the Super Bowl parade then chapel will take place on Thursday. In this event there would be no imposition of ashes at chapel.

Geography Bee

Hope’s Geography Bee will take place on February 28th.

Grandparents’ Day

Hope will be celebrating Grandparents’ Day on March 8th. Please mark your calendars. More information will be coming soon!
